IGN on the PS2
Quote:
The hype for PlayStation 3 is already there. Talk to any developer and you'll get a range of comments, from "the system eclipses Xenon" to "it's three and a half times more powerful." Publishers are on board in a big way. Everyone is making Xenon and PS3 games. And Sony's brand name has never been better.

There's no need for Sony to rush PlayStation 3 to market. PlayStation 2 is continuing to sell. PlayStation 2 software is continuing to sell. Games like Grand Theft Auto San Andreas remain unstoppable. The company can afford to take its time.
Microsoft will of course launch the successor to Xbox later this year. Sony in turn will likely launch a campaign to subdue sales. It'll push its PSP handheld against Microsoft's new console. And it might just offer a hint of things to come: some well-placed teaser ads for PS3 that promise bigger, better things than Microsoft may have planned for Xenon.
Nintendo is a non-factor. The company doesn't so much compete as it exists.

ps3 3.5 times more powerful than xbox2... that means ps3 might be running 32ghz for main processors... powered by nuclear cold fusion and coming in at $100,000 per console
I can't wait until E3 to see what happens
XBox=fuct and Nintendo=mystery is that right IGN?

Re: IGN on the PS2
According to Nintendo, Sony is their biggest competition....
For Microsoft, JAPAN is their biggest competition.... lol
For Sony, Microsoft is their biggest competition... I dunno why...
But you pretty much said it,
Xbox = fuct
Nintendo = dunno yet... as is the case with many issues this year.

*checks inside his ps2* hmm. doesnt appear to be any of that in there.
while i dont think anyone believes that ps3 will be 3.5 times more powerful, it doesnt need to be exactly 3 times the power in every chip/part in it to accomplish that. as i've said before, the power of the console comes from how EVERY part works together. not by whats written on the processor speed or graphics card and things like that.
but obviously, its not going to be 3.5 times as powerful. 1.5 could be a more realistic number. if it is indeed more powerful.

Re: IGN on the PS2
I think it's safe to say the PS3 will be more powerful. Just no telling how much more....
Considering the new Cell chip will enable so much more for the PS3 other than clock speeds and processing power. Cell chip spreadsheets indicate that it will enable the elimination of load times and frame skips.
Microsoft has nothing but more software and an earlier release on their hands. I knew from the start that Microsoft would have trouble staying in the console business, considering they aren't a hardware company.

Re: IGN on the PS2
I love how IGN pulls a number like 3.5 out of their ass and then says that the PS3 is definetely this much stronger than the competition. That is bologna.
Now, I still believe PS3 is stronger, but come on. Even after all the consoles have been seen, we still can't put some sort of number ratio as to which is more powerful. It all depends on the developer and how they can implement the hardware to their use.

Re: IGN on the PS2
Well it's obvious the ps3 will be more powerful, like I said, it's too early to tell just how much more powerful it will be.
but seeing their development kits and how they will be utilizing the C/C++ XML languages, it'll be a breeze for third party developers to make some sick games on it. Considering I know a little C++ and it's not that hard of a language.
We will have to see at E3. But IMO, it's inevitable that Microsoft fall in the console business. Only because Nintendo and Sony have ground in both Japan and NA, whilst Microsoft is dependent on NA, and have absolutely almost no ground in Japan.
E3 will be the awakening of many epiphanies.

people take things too seriously and read too much into them. they're exagerating to make a point. they dont literally mean its 3.5 times whatever power xbox2 has.
how many times do you see someone say woah, that is like 10 times better then cheese! (or whatever). do you take out a calculator and multiply cheese by 10?
its there to get thier point across. they believe it is much more powerful.

thats what I was going to say...well not really. Although you would think since I'm living in Null's Imagination that I would say that.

Cheese is a little different than computer performance, which is much more measurable.
That is my point though. I would have been happier with 10 times more powerful, because most everyone accepts that as an exxageration. 3.5 times though, is like they serioulsy want people to believe that that is the ratio of difference. Such a random number doesn't seem like an exxageration, more like a calculation. They could have said twice as powerful, or even thrice as powerful, but they didn't.
We educated people know that its bogus, but the, er... not-so-educated will be like, "Well, its 'this much' more powerful." There is no way to know that. I guess I just don't have that much respect for IGN.

3.5 times more powerful.... the PS3 will be...
although a random number, sounds exaggerated still.

"Publishers are on board in a big way. Everyone is making Xenon and PS3 games. And Sony's brand name has never been better. "
I think this is the quote everybody should be talking about. As long as PS3 is getting more of the old classics, and new innovative games, then the system should be awesome!

Um, no.
Reading is a skill.
He is being facetious. That's what IGN is implying, and he's calling them out for printing utter bull****, which is about all IGN is good for.

LOL
Morons.
Sony's brand name has been a LOT better in the past. They're getting crushed by Samsung on the TV end, and Apple on the Music end. How many people do you see with the new MP3 walkmens? I don't mind so much when people on the forums make grand sweeping statements that aren't factually accurate, but for IGN to do it is really irresponsible, at least if they want to be considered journalists.

I agree, I'm not going to buy a PS3 until they come out with something like the next Metal Gear Solid game. The same goes with Microsoft, I would buy at launch if the next Perfect Dark was available.
