Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
Nintendo recently registered some new trademarks:
- NINTENDO V-POCKET
- PCGP
- WANZER
One guy said the V-Pocket was
Quote:
A miniture gameboy type handheld that will use cheap cartridges and old tech. for gamers on the go who do not have the cash for the more expensive advance, or DS.
Will mostly utilize ports of old games, even 'game and watch' type gameplay.
A mini mini-game player in basic terms.

though I don't know where the info is from considering quiter.jp posted the trademark info tomorrow (that just sounds weird...yet true ) While others speculate that it's the English name for the Play-Yan.
Would actually get the V-Pocket based on that description. I find GBA and DS to be too bulky for my pockets and I play my old GB games more than anything else anyway. Plus I got no coin as they say.
Have no idea what the other two names could be for. Perhaps one's for Revolution? Who knows...I sure don't.

Pretty cool. If the V-Pocket is afforadable and gets good support, it would be something I'd pickup if I didnt want to hassle with a DS or PSP or just relive hte old games.

The PCGP must be the personal computer global positioning component for the DS that Nintendo will announce in March. I can't wait to see the picture.

Re: Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
I would defintately pick one up. For nostalgic gaming, and for kicks (since it is supposed to be cheaper)
I bet my mom will wish this came out before my little bro got addicted to his game boy.,

Re: Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
i seriously doubt thats what the v pocket is. i cant see them making something like that just to play old games on, most everyone already has a gameboy for that.
what first came to mind to me when i saw the name, was more of a memory card with a screen for the EVolution. like the Dreamcast's VMU's
But whatever it is, i doubt its another handheld just to play old games on.

Remember Pokémon Mini? That was a mini mini console....
I hope it's something else than the mini gameboy. Could be an add-on for something else.

Re: Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
I think the point is to draw in more people buying things that wouldn't usually spend the money on a game boy. So if it is an add on to something else, that would be defeating the purpose.

That's what my first impression was, too.
I bet it'll be the size of a DS card.

Alright. PCGP definitely has to be the "Projected Computer Graphics Processor" that will power the N5's abilities with Holography.

Re: Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
As you may be aware, two Nintendo patents filed recently have illuminated the Internet rumour mill, with the Kyoto games giant filing V-Pocket and PCGP.
UPDATE:
SPOnG learned from official Nintendo sources yesterday that the V-Pocket trademark concerns Nintendo’s licensing of the Palm OS based PDA software.
Nintendo will soon unveil a complete suit of personal organiser tools for its Nintendo DS platform, expected to be shown before E3. Nintendo believes that the functionality of the DS, combined with high-end PDA software, will give it an edge over Sony’s PSP, which is, and will remain a media-driven value-added console.
It’s worth noting that the logo offered for V-Pocket reflects the aesthetic employed in Nintendo’s DS branding.
The second is the rather interesting PCGP, rumoured by many to be some sort of wireless augmentation for the DS. However, SPOnG has learned that it is a joint-filing with the Pokemon-famed Game Freak Company.
So we could be looking at Pokemon Coliseum Grand Prix, or Pokemon Goa…Something Something. You get the idea.

Re: Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
Yeah, I read this a little early today. Now the question is... why are they doing something like this. If it's true? PDA's are cool little things, but how many business people (other then maybe in the gaming industry) are going to want to take this DS into a board meeting? It's not very professional looking. I guess in between meeting, you could pop out the V-Pocket and play some games. I just don't see this as a very good move.
If this is what the V-Pocket is, I really hope Nintendo has something else to show off at E3. Because that thing doesn't impress me.

Re: Nintendo V-Pocket and two other trademarks registered
Nintendo is trying to go outside the box of the video game business more aggressively (if, but I'm not sure since who knows what they are doing at this point) then before. They've had little things in the past but nothing that really warranted attention.
Until I see the thing in action I have to reserve judgement.
