The real test of strength

Consoles, put to the test to see how durable they are... done by the chick from X-play.

for those who dont wanna see the video or have a 56k connection.

First test, drop a (20 lbs) weight from a ladder on each PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox

....on power back on.. .ps2 doesn't work, gamecube and xbox fine...

second test... croquet style hit with a sledgehammer...

....on power back one, both xbox and gamecube still work

third test, drop from 12 feet onto concret floor

...xbox smashes faceplace off, and on power on doesn't work, gamcube shows no real wear (cept the cover wont close)

i've noticed this to be true also, I always drop my gamecube, or pull it off the shelf by the controller... I was playing resident evil today, and pulled it off the shelf by the cord on accident and the gameplay didn't even stop... so i played it (while gamecube was on side)

I've replaced my Ps2 twice, and my Xbox once for not working when i put a disk in... gamecube never.

Go nintendo for always making a quality product

old video tho, remember seeing it a while ago. had it not been old i'd of asked why use an old model ps2. more curious of how the current model ps2 does. i know the flip lid would break easily, but other then that it feels much more sturdy then before.

I'm happy to know that my Gamecube is the most durable system. I'm very careful with electronic gear though so I wouldn't be too disappointed if I owned a PS2. You have to remember though, Nintendo added a handle to the Gamecube that encourages the concept of carrying to and fro. If you're going to do something like that, you need to support it by ensuring a somewhat durable system. So, there's nothing really wrong with the PS2 and Xbox not doing as well because their makers didn't intend for it to be carried and moved regularily.

Remember, the Xbox is the one that survived a bullet. I wonder how the Gamecube would handle that?

The PS2 isn't built to take anything. How sad.

I think the Gamecube could take a bullet, although I'm sure it needs to take it in a certain area to survive.

Nintendo has clearly stated that the handle is NOT for carrying it around like some suitcase. It's just to change its position in the room.

They're just saying that to protect themselves from durability claims. I wouldn't need a handle to change it's position in a room. It's a classic business trick: give a product a certain feature and deny it's true purpose.

That's not the point, because the Gamecube by far is the most portable system, and since it is so light and compact, it needs to be able to withstand the occasional bump or drop. Nintendo has always been good in that area.

Actually not the case. the PS2 is far more portable then the GC. being the size of a portable DVD player, the PS2 fits easily into portable DVD player cases and still have room for a screen inside the case. (also being much lighter then the gc)

Are you talking about the new smaller PS2? Because the old one isn't all that small and is fairly awkward to move around a lot.

But, even if the PS2 compares in portability to the Gamecube, it isn't as durable, and that hurts it in that area. I mean, I'll pick up my Cube without a second thought because I know even if I did somehow drop it, it would most likely survive. I wouldn't be as comfortable moving around a PS2 because it lacks the same durability.

Not that portability is a huge concern of mine. But, just for the sake of arguement...
