Sony planning PSP upgrades

We can’t confirm exactly what Sony is working on here, but supposedly some sort of software upgrade for the PlayStation Portable has leaked out that’ll let you use the portable game console for web browsing, music downloads, and, uh, word processing. Unless Sony is serious about coming out with that keyboard attachment spotted at E3, there’s no way in hell we’re writing anything on a PSP except our initials when we get a high score—and maybe not even then. No clue when or if Sony might officially introduce this, or whether these new features will come pre-loaded on the US version of the PSP that’s due out in March or so (and obviously, install this at your own risk).

It looks like an unofficial PSP update has been leaked from a web domain owned by Sony. The update has features in it like web browsing, voice, word processor and music downloads. The file should not be used, though, since it will fill your device with nonsense code. There are some screenies of the update here (a Japanese site), so just enjoy those for now. There’s no question Sony has future-proofed the device, but a word processor?
