Default Firefox Problem

ok...this has never happened to me until today:

i wanted to download new drivers for my motherboard audio...when i clicked on a link that was supposed to get me to the mirrors page for me to download, instead brought me to a page like this (see Problem.jpg). also when i wanted to try download.com, it gave a similar page, just with more "writing". i know this is a problem with firefox, because i tried the same link and download.com on IE and it works perfectly.

what i want to know is: has anyone encountered this problem before and if you havem how did you go about fixing it?

It looks like the browser is displaying or trying to display the program or it's code because in that tab the file is appended with an '.exe' at the end. So try right clicking the link and 'save as' to your computer.

i tried that...but it gives me a .htm page, and as i said, the link isn't to the file, but to a page with mirrors on it, and from there i choose where to download from. it's weird.

Right. It's just goofy with the filetype and tries to display it as text.

If worse comes to worst then just let it display the text, then after it's completely loaded whatever it is, go to file and select "Save Page As..."

That should solve your problem if not as effectively as you'd hoped.

there might also be an option somewhere that tells firefox what to do with certain file types. Perhaps .exe got listed as open in new page instead of saving.

i remember once Opera was saving every jpeg on a website i try to open instead of opening it on the webpage. i just reinstalled, but im sure there was an option to change it.

no no no....the page itself is an HTM page and not an .exe file...even though that's what it sais, the link that i clicked should have directed me to a WEB PAGE with links of mirrors from which i download the file.

and also, as i said, when i try to go to download.com, i get the same writing, just more of it.

its a link htm page thats scripted to make you download an exe or whatever file it is automatically right?

the page itself would either not do anything or take you to a blank page or something that says your download should begin automatically.
something is telling your firefox to open that automatic download instead of letting you save it.

im almost positive it would be somewhere in options
