Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Sales More Than Double Then Original PoP

No, we can't enjoy a nice good-hearted hero trying to defeat evil and correct his mistakes. We have to have a bad-@$$ hero who's fighting for his own selfish survival by spilling blood spitting curse swords.

Sad sad news indeed and yet, entirely predictable. Whenever videogames as a genre collectively take a step forward, soon afterwards they nearly aways take two steps back as well.

I'm pretty sure it has to do more with the fact that the first was so critically acclaimed than the fact that the second was darker and broodier. Everyone heard that the first was great, but also heard that the second was coming, so they held out on the first.

Argh. why do they corrupt good characters ? It bugs me, and again with the lack of anything new going to be released EVER.. I mean we had prince of persia back in the day and now we have POP: Sands of Time and now POP: Warrior Within, When are they going to get some new ideas for games instead of making the current games suck more and more with each off shoot ?

Maybe they'll take heed of it's reviews and use the financial success of this game to fund a better, more true-to-heart, sequel next time around.

Uh, maybe because it's a good game? Don't assume that it's selling well based solely off the fact that the main character has a dark and gritty attitude.

Prince of Persia was, also, a good game. However, it had a good natured hero trying undo his wrongs.

It did not sell so well.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within takes the first game and makes the hero a killer maniac who cares only of himself.

It sells double of what the first did.

A lot of people didn't buy the first game because barely anyone knew about it. It was a new game, not a sequel, coming from a developer which is not very well known. Afterall, it's Ubisoft, not Microsoft. And when the new, improved sequel comes along, people now know the PoP name a lot better, and therefore it sells better.

But no, it can't be that. Not at all. No chance. The only reason the game is selling well is because the main character is an angry badass.

It is a GOOD GAME, so it should be selling well.

We would like to think that's true, Darkmaster. And maybe it is. But what conclusion do you think Ubi Soft is going to make? I would hope that they would mark the game's success up to better name recognition and marketing (I understand the first one didn't get many commercials). But I don't think that's going to happen. They'll think, "We made him into an anti-hero who decapitates people and screams, 'You bitch!' People bought it in droves. Must be a good thing."

The real problem isn't that the tastes of the mass population suck (that just goes without saying). The problem is that Ubi Soft now probably has the wrong idea about what makes the game good and what people like about it. The next Prince of Persia is likely to feature even more unoriginal cursing and terrible, inappropriate heavy metal music. And in a time when IGN starts calling for Zelda to get murdered, this is not a trend I particularly like to see.

Did anyone even see the marketing campaigns for the first game? It had the same rock n' roll music and crazy fighting sequences as the sequel's commercials have. PoP has been advertised that way to begin with, and PoP2 really doesn't have a whole lot more commercials or other advertisements either.

I mean come on, its the sequel to a very critically acclaimed video game, did you expect it to sell badly? And you people still fail to realize that it is a good game. If it was a crap game and it sold well, then I could see the "badass" theme as the main cause for high sales.
