Default Super Mario 64 DS Review

Quote:
9.0 Presentation
Though it's just a bit of a bummer to get a port for Mario's first DS adventure, it's anything but "just a port." They've added so much to an existing design.

8.5 Graphics
A very solid display of the system's capabilities. It looks far better on the DS than it did on the N64, even without texture filtering.

8.5 Sound
Great conversions of the original Nintendo 64 soundtrack, with fantastic sound separation that shows off the DS' abilities...even without headphones you can hear where someone's located on-screen.

9.0 Gameplay
Without an analog stick, a near-perfect game like Mario 64 just becomes "great, just a little frustrating." The additional cool little touch-screen games bump up the score.

9.5 Lasting Appeal
There are a ton of level challenges, mini-games to unlock, and multiplayer competition using only one cartridge. Keep this one with you at all times, because it'll last a long, long time.

8.9 OVERALL:
(out of 10 / not an average)
Well IGN says it looks better than the N64 version so I guess my memory was just a little clouded when I said the DS version didn't look quite as good. Probably Gamecube games are throwing off my memory a little bit since they look so good.

Nice. If I'll import, I'll get this game along with it.

Well, I think the issue a lot of people have with the graphics is that there's no texture filter on the DS. So instead of getting the "blurry" textures that you got on the N64, you get more pixelated textures like on the PSX (although the textures are technically at a higher resolution than the N64's were). Although I guess I was wrong about the framerate, I could have sworn they were aiming for 60 FPS.

Rayman DS looks pretty awesome graphically.

I always thought that the DS screenshots I had seen always looked better than the N64 ones.
