Excerpts from GTA:San Andreas review from OPM
Quote:
"As I start writing this review, I have played San Andreas for 35 hours and nine minutes, and I have completed only 49.43 percent of the entire game....My sworn enemy is the Ballas gang. I've taken over three territoriews and lost one, and 158 enemy gang members have died over the course of the turf war...I've spent $160,000 on property, $32,411 on gambling, $11,400 on weapons, $1,675 on clothes, $1,505 on tattoos, $1,300 on haircuts, and just $2 on food. I've jumped out of a plane twice, and I've dated two different women, with limited success."
"If you're expecting Vice City, only set in the 90's and with some RPG bits, you are wrong. If you believe they can't possibly push it as much as they have before, that it can't really be that good, you are wrong. San Andreas is shocking, not necessarily because of its typically contentious subject matter...but because of the sheer scale of the experience."
"All that remains is to tackle the question we posed at the beginning of this review: Is it really the best game ever made? Quite possibly, yes. Some of you may not like it. Some of you might be quite cynical about the hype surrounding the game. I'm sure some of you will think that I'm being sensational and overstatin its quality, simply because we have the exclusive and we're obliged to do so. This is not the case. Before I played it, I was thinking that perhaps this story would be more interesting if we were able to say, "Grand Theft Auto loses its cool, San Andreas is actually crap," but the truth is it's spectacular -- it sets the bar so high that it leaves a lot of games in the dust."
BASE JUMPING
Learn to parachute at the flight school (it's like playing Pilotwings) and then grab a parachute pack and have some fun. Take a plane up over a city, land on top of a skyscraper, leap off the edge of it, and parachute down to the street.
IMPORT/EXPORT
Remember the car-smuggling business in Grand Theft Auto 2 on PS1? No? Go back and pick up a copy from the used bin in EB Games -- you'll probably find it for $5. You can relive the smuggling experience by purchasing a car dealership in San Fierro.
NOOKIE
Hooking up with the ladies is an important part of the game, and your sexiness will dictate how successful you are. The dates themselves are often very amusing, with romantically lit scenes of you wooing the ladies while cheesy music plays.
TRIATHLON
The game has running, swimming, and biking gameplay mechanics, so what better way to take advantage of them than to include a full-on triathlon for you to enter? You'll need to hit the gym and crank up those stamina stats if you want to win.
Not a ton of detail on the minigames...Among the ones they mention are dancing, gambling in the casinos, driving trains, robberies. Nothing that hasn't been mentioned before. But it also appears that there's so much in the game that they couldn't possibly cover it all, and the reviewer does say that "I've shot a basketball and scored from 114 feet," so not sure what else there is.
As far as multi-player, it talks about two-player rampage missions. There are on-foot rampage missions and vehicle rampages, where one player drives and the other shoots.

Damn my brother.
He pre-ordered the game for me, but upon hearing me preach this games awesomeness to him, he stole my pre-ordering...considering he made it anyways.
So im hoping if i go on Tuesday (hopefully with Dylan, if he wishes to play it as well) they will have copies left. I doubt they will....but thre is always hope.

Re: Excerpts from GTA:San Andreas review from OPM
apparently OPM also printed a list of people that lended their voices to the game:
Samuel L. Jackson (Presumably, Frank Tenpenny)
David Cross
Ice T (Without a doubt, Maddog)
Charlie Murphy (Without a doubt, Jizzy)
James Woods
Chris Penn
Peter Fonda
Axel Rose (Classic Rock DJ)
Chuck D (Old School Rap DJ)

3 games coming out soon that are being heralded as possibly the best game ever made. Half-Life 2, Halo 2, and GTA:SA. Poor gamer's wallets

Re: Excerpts from GTA:San Andreas review from OPM
MGS3 might be up there too. Maybe not quite there, but damn close. This is going to really be a close GOTY too, like REALLY close. There's no 1 game that completely stands out above everything else this year.

Oh yeah, forgot about MGS3. Might not be the best game ever but it shouldn't fail.

I have a feeling the next Legend of Zelda adventure will shake the gaming world unlike ever before.
Supporting Detail: Gamers were found crying and weak after viewing a preview trailer for the next game.
But these 3 games all come in a nearby second place, and will still provide fun while the real magic is being conjured by Nintendo.

Re: Excerpts from GTA:San Andreas review from OPM
Every second closer to this games release it seems to get better.
Every second that ticks off of the countdown, the game gets that much more awesome.

IGN review is in. 9.9/10.0
"I'm not going to beat around the bush. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the single best PlayStation 2 title I have ever played."
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/559/559560p1.html
Hmm...I get the impression that this is a good game.

Re: Excerpts from GTA:San Andreas review from OPM
thought about picking it up today. but not in a very gta mood right now. i dunno. Too many games right now. i'd like to pick up R&C3, thought about jak3, then theres MGS3, ...hmm. lot of 3's it seems.. HL2 for pc...and GT4 in december. Altho i know this GTA to be much better, i just cant knock the feeling that after i explore the entire city and do many chases, it'll go the way of my other GTA's.... i just never liked doing the missions. We'll see.
Anywho tho, i'd of had no probs finding it if i was gunna get it. i saw quite a few copies in a couple stores. Which was obvious tho, they always say you wont get one unless you reserve, and theres always more then enough to go around. stores just do that to make sure they get your sale. theres no way they'd just happen to make enough copies for reserves and nothing else, they make more then enough.
[EDIT] perhaps i'll try the buy 2 games and get this one free if they have it. lol. im suprised TRU hasnt already 'taken it off shelves'
