Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door Review
Quote:
7.5 <---- Presentation
Nintendo's classic characters, great menu systems, and a unique, but limited style. Bare bones presentation package for an RPG (static look, no voice acting, simplistic cut-scenes).
*
7.5 <---- Graphics
The great-looking environments and cute characters go a long way. Too bad the texture work and artistic scope is limited in some levels.
*
9.0 <---- Sound
Nostalgic melodies and sound effects all around -- no cheesy attempts at doing midi orchestras here. It's game music at its purest.
*
10 <---- Gameplay
A great adventure, awesome mixture of exploration, roleplaying and action, and a fun battle system make this a true winner.
*
9 <---- Lasting Appeal
More than 30 hours of gameplay, varied conversations (depending on your partner of choice), and tons of stuff to collect and find.

I liked the first one a lot and this one sounds good too.

Re: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door Review
Yeah, I just put about 2 1/2 hours into this tonight (it's 2AM). I have to say I'm totally impressed. The comedy is just so great. I like it a lot better than the first Paper Mario if not as much as Mario RPG.

Re: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door Review
It's just not an "eventually" game. It's a NOW game.
I've put 14 1/2 hours into the game so far (yeah, that's since Wednesday) and I'm just over half done. I haven't been using a guide at all and I feel like I'm flowing through it at a good pace. But I'm sure as Hell not rushing myself either. There are plenty of secrets (badges, star pieces to buy badges, etc.) that are keeping my interest enough for me not to completely rush. But even if I had been rushing I don't think I could be where I am in less than 11 hours. Definitely a 20-40 hour game depending how in depth you're playing it.

Re: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door Review
Surprised to see the very good score it received from Gamespot, that guy is usually overly critical about games like this. I think I might pick it up soon to play while I wait for Halo 2. Been a long time since my Cube did anything besides collect dust.

Re: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door Review
I just beat it last night with a clocked 26 hours. Really good game. Constant comedy that just kept me laughing and a story that kept me entertained all the way through.

Re: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door Review
I got it yesterday, I've only played a little bit so far. It seems pretty cool though. Want to hear something funny though, on the cover art there's a little seal that says, "Best Seller" Lol, talk about tricking less informed gamers. How could it be a best seller when it's only been out for a couple days.
