Default Do they need to compete?

Well I saw this in an old post at XBA. Does Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft really have to compete in every genre to win?

I mean does Microsoft really need to stop making Project Ego in order to develop a game to compete with Mario SunShine?

Should Nintendo drop Zelda to make a giant RPG like Final Fantasy?

Does Sony need to turn KingDom Hearts cel-shaded to compete with Zelda?

the reason I ask is because someone over there posted a list of games and said that Nintenco couldn't compete with some of them. I don't think Nintendo/Sony/MS has to have a game in every genre to compete with the others. I think they just need enough strong games to make up for a lack of others to compete.

first of al, the three questions you asked were retarded... just want to make that clear.

Nobody has to drop anything to make anything.

Does Sony/Nintendo nedd a FPS to compete with Halo? Yes

Does Nintendo need a game to compete with GTA3? Yes

Does Nintendo/Microsoft need a racer to compete with GT3? Yes

Does Microsoft need a game to compete with Skies of Arcadia? Yes

Does Microsoft/Sony need a game that can compete with Mario? Yes

but none of them have to drop anythign in order to compete.

They don't absolutely need a game in every single genre to compete, but it sure helps out. For instance, the N64 had almost no RPGs. It did hurt them, but they were still able to compete. That's why PSX did so well. It had games in every single genre that topped the games on other consoles.

I think the company with the system in last place in sales NEEDS to do something in order to compete...

the other two companies don't NEED to do anything, but they should do a lot of things...

this topic is too subjective, and I'm too lazy to put enough thought into what-could-be a meaningful post.

Meh...

You dont just drop big name titles (Zelda) and Potential Big names (Project Ego) to compete. Its all about the money when it titles as such. If they were to compete they would have a team start a new game that isnt doing one at the time.
