Square confirmed the official release date and pricing for Final Fantasy XI in Japan. Gamers will enter the first massively-multiplayer online console RPG on May 16 of this year, and pay 1,280 yen each month (a little less than US$10) to adventure, chat, and otherwise enjoy themselves in the virtual fantasy world of Vana'Diel. In addition, there will be a 100 yen monthly fee if gamers would also like to avail themselves of an opportunity to play online Tetra Master (the card game from Final Fantasy IX, slightly changed for online consumption). Use of the other features of Square's PlayOnline service is, as yet, free of charge.
The game itself will be priced at 7,800 yen, and come as a two-disc package. One of those discs is to include the software necessary to connect to PlayOnline, while the other is the game itself.

Joiess stop being a fanboy, and so protective of the PS2. The thread were you 2 (Stu and you) argue woth strangler is so damn sad, because you are actually scared for the PS2 and it shows.
After reading the preview of FFXI not only does it need a HD (100-150 dollars) but also you have to play to play.
From what is known until known Phantasy Star Online a LOT more flexible than FFXI because you not only master axes, swords, mag ic, but guns, rifles etc.
Also if you think dishing out 150 dollars for the HD is WORTH it, then your stupidity has no limites. Becuase no game is worth
FFX- 35 dollars
Online Service- 10 dollars per 3 months
HD- 150 dollars
Modem Adapter- 50
that adds up to 245 dollars!! Wow!! Holy **** the game must be so good that it's worth 245 dollars...

Thanks for the compliments, buddy! I am not protective about the PS2. I just do not think that it is fair to judge two games that are not even available to play yet. PSO might be better tha FFXI, or FFXI might be better than PSO. You have your opinions, but I do not see a basis on which you makes your claims, considering that not alot of info has been released about FFXI.
Oh, and Stu was not involved in that arguement. And, me and Strangler made piece, I hope we can do the same!

Play to play? I think you mean pay to play. Honest mistake. The hard drive's price is still not finalized. It is expensive, yes, but there will be millions of people who will buy this game.

Do you mind sharing with me some of the weapons that you can master in FFXI? Or do you even know?

I agree with you. It is one expensive thing. But, like I said earlier, people will buy it. Sony and Square might just be able to pull it off. Square knows that people will buy the game, so if they can get people to pay this much to play it, kootos to them. If they fail, FFXII will be cheaper.

Again, the game might be good, or it might be crap. Let's play the game before we make a judgement.

hmmmmmm
Well as it comes to your argument you 2 are having here....
for me personally i will not pay a montly cost to play ANY game. IMO no game is worth it.
I'll wait till they come to PC where i can find a private server and play em for free. :P
The harddrive COULD make the game better then PSO, because with a hardrive you could basically download stuff like more weapons, spells, udpates, Mods. etc. changing the game, and giving it a much longer life.
However all that would come at paying a monthly cost ontop of the cost you paid for the Game, HD, Modem.... Depending on how long you play this game, this game could become more expensive then you ever imagined. Same with any game that uses a Monthly Fee. Thats just something im not willing to pay for my PS2. online games i will play. But i will not pay a montly cost of them. (other then the cost of the internet it self)

Okay let's skip Strangler's arguement and continue to ours.

The HD is finalized if you don't remeber I posted a link from coremagazine which states that the HD is need to play the game.
at the price of 245 dollars I can pick up 5 games. So believe me this game won't be acing sales charts.

If you read the IGN preview there will be 3 classes and 3 races.
Human, Little guys (don't remeber the name of the race), and Elves. Weapons will close combat melee weapons and magic.
Classes will mainly be magician, warriors, thiefs and rangers.
PSO unlike FFXI will not require you to buy stupid add-ons like the HD.
The classes are much more flexible, Rangers, Magicians, Warriors.
3 races Androids, Human (male and female)
But Phantasy Star Online will feature guns unlike FFXI, and add 80+ new weapons to version 1.
So believe me Sonic Team might actually slaughter Sqauresoft his time around.
PS don't waste145 dollars on FFXI better get 5 games... you'll most likely enjoy it more.

I am not saying that FFXI will slaughter PSO on the charts. What I am saying is that because of the monthly payments, cost of hard drive, and the cost of the game, Square will make alot of money, even if sales are not as good as PSO.
PS : I like this conversation because I think that the Final Fantasy series is the crappiest series of all time, and I am "defending" it. Lol.
