Drunk guy

The place where I work, which I talked about in another thread, is about 10 miles from my house, and its located in Peoria, Illinois. Just like any large city (peoria isnt HUGE, but over 100,000 people), there are good parts of town and bad parts of town. My workplace isnt exactly in the best part of town...Its not in the worst I wouldnt say either, just not exactly the best. Anywho, across the street from where I work there is always a guy or 2 sitting on their porch drinking beer. Sometimes as we're walking from out cars into the building they yell stuff at us...usually you cant understand what they say. Anywho, today a bunch of us took our break at 11 like we usually do, we stand right outside the door, and the guy was on his porch across the street drinking. He didnt yell at us, probably because there were like 8 or 9 of us out there, he was probably scared we would beat him up. So after we were out there a few mins we notice the guy standing up on his porch just staring at us. So another kid out there decided to have a stare off with this guy, and he walked up a few feet to where he was plainly visible to the guy across the street, and just stood there and stared at him. Just so you can get the picture, this guys house is across the street AND across the parking lot...which isnt exactly huge, but all in all we were probably 150-200 feet away from this guy. Anywho during the stare off the guy puts his hand near his head almost like he was saluting or something. So the kid challenging him did the same. After a few mins of this, another guy from inside the house came outside and distracted the guy, and they eventually walked down the street, at which point the kid who was having the stare off contest(by this point he had retreated back near the building) made a crazy bird sound to try to piss the guys off I guess. They started digging a hole or something and seemed to ignore him. Anyways morale of the story is drunk guys who sit on their porch all day drinking beer are damn funny somtimes. It should be interesting what happens tomorrow when we take our usually break at 11. If anything interesting happens, I will be sure to reply to this topic telling you guys about it.

Okay so to update you guys:

Today We went outside for our break at 11, and they guy was out there as usual. We ignored him, he ignored us. Nothing really happened. Later on after lunch a few of us decieded to go out before we had to get back to work. We went out and started discussing him. Of course he couldnt hear what we were saying, but one kid pointed in his direction several times(not trying to piss him off or anything, just trying to point something out), but this eventually provoked him. He got up and started staring. We of course started laughing like crazy. He yelled something at us from his portch, and the one kid that likes to provoke him made a few bird noises. He then got up and walked down off his portch to his left down the sidewalk. Next to his house there is an alley, which is basically directly across from where we all were. He went into the alley, stopped right in the middle, and just stood there staring right at us for probably upwards of 5 minutes. He stood with his hands behind his back. A few minutes later he started walking very slowly back towards his house, and which point he yelled something and pointed at one kid who just happened to be walking out to his car. The kid was smoking, and pointed his ciggarete back at the guy. Then the drunk guy put his hands down toward his pants like he was going to pop somthing out we all had no desire to see. Instead he just kinda lifted up his shirt real quick like. He then walked over behind a truck that is parked on the street in front of his house, leaned on it facing us, and just stared at us from there for another 5 minutes probably. He eventually went back up to his porch, where his buddy had been sitting the whole time, and that was the end of it. We of course were laughing like bloody murder through this whole thing. The funny thing is this other guy on the portch just sits there like nothing is going on out of the usual, like that guy didnt just do something totally crazy. They are both absolute nutcases, but I couldnt imagine anything more funny at the moment. Its only the 3rd day of Summer, I cant imagine what he might be doing a month or so from now if this kinda stuff continues every day. I will of course keep you guys posted.

Oh, man Jason this is so funny, I'm literally chuckling softly to myself. You have to promise me that you'll update this thread everytime you guys have an encounter with the drunk. And maybe some day you guys could sneak a picture of him. Can't wait to hear more! +rep for entertaining story!

Sneaking a picture actually shouldnt be all that hard...I should be able to do it, I just havent gotten around to it yet. Im glad you find it amusing. Another funny thing about this guy is that every day he gets in some wierd outfit, looks like something that he would go to work in or something, but he never goes anywhere. Just sits on his porch.

Today he was out yet again. He was out during break, but the real fun started after lunch. There were probably 5 or 6 of us out there, minding our own busniess, when he yelled something from his usual spot on the porch. It was uncomprehensible, like usual. The kid that likes to egg him on made his usual bird call to the guy, and he then stood up and stared, while he had his one hand near his head, almost like he is saluting(hes done this before). He didnt hold that position for long, until he was yelling again...this time he seemed to target a specific one of us, because he was pointing and the kid that likes to egg us on pointed at his younger brother, who seemed to be the target. You still couldnt get much of what he was saying though. A couple of the guys started yelling jibberish back to him, which was histarically funny. Soon it started to rain, so we kinda ducked under the edge of the building. He then walked to the side of his porch almost like he was looking for something, came up with nothing, then walked back up to his usual chair on his porch and gave us all the thumbs down. We all gave him thumbs up. Then the cable guy pulled up, and what followed looked to me like the cable guy trying to explain something to the guy, and the cable guy getting frustrated, and the crazy guy pointing up at his satellite dish several times. It was then time for us to go inside so thats where it ended. When me and another kid left for home a few hours later, he yelled stuff at us yet again, again un-comprehensible. As we drove by his house he yelled some more. I will probably take my camera to work tomorrow to try to get a picture for you guys.

I like these adventures involving the crazy drunk man. Have you considered publishing all of these stories into a book? Maybe you could do some illistrations.

Yea, maybe I will make a book out of these sometime down the road. But there's probably many many stories still ahead, so Im nowhere near ready to do something like that. I should start putting dates on my entry's.

PLEASE READ THE ARTICLE BEFORE LOOKING AT THE PICTURE. I NEED TO EXPLAIN THE PICTURE!

Today after lunch he was out again. Not long after several of us got out there, he stood up and stared, as if waiting, beckoning for a retaliation from us. Sure enough that one kid that loves to egg him on made his usual bird call, and the guy sat down, as if thats all he got up for. Not much happened for a few minutes, then he started yelling again. He yelled something that was really short, just one word, not sure what it was. Immediatley after hearing this the usual co-worker yelled something really quick back at him, then the drunk guy yelled it again, then the co-worker again, and they went on like this for probably 30 seconds, both yelling things that werent words. He started yelling some more and the same kid made his bird calls, this time doing a dance along with them, where he squatted and flapped his arms.

As I was going out to my car at the end of they day, he yelled something at me, and I kinda understood some of it. It definatley had something to do with beer, he either wanted to sell me some beer or give me a beer or possibly he wanted beer from me. I wouldnt attempt a guess as to which it actually was.

I did get a picture today as I was driving by after work. Now I took it while in my car while driving, so I didnt exactly get him centered, and it isnt as clear as it could be, but I'll try for a better one tomorrow. In the picture you can clearly see the guys house and porch. That yellow tape out front is around some large hole, I assume the city was doing some pipe work or something. The Drunk man is on the left side of the porch, wearing his usual blue work outfit and blue hat. The guy next to him is his buddy who just sits there most of the time, never gets up or anything through all of these incidents. Near the right of the picture you can see the start of the alley where he stood and stared at us, as talked about in the 6/3/04 entry. If you look very closely near the tree on the front right of the house, you can see his satellite dish just barely through the trees, mounted on the side of his house. Last but not least, if you look in my rearview mirror, you can see the roof of the building where I work, very near that roof is where we take our breaks outside, just a little to the right.

Nice....um.....who gets drunk during the day....besides my parents...and maybe hes just crazy and in one of thoes providalbe crazy-guy homes...or maybe hes an alcoholic..who knows...

The picture looks similar to how I imagined it. It's funny how they hang out there on their little porch. I wonder how long they stay out there. Great picture.

I think you should walk up to him one day and pretend to apologize, and right when he is at his worst, snap a picture and run away. Then we all get a closeup.

I mean, hes drunk...not like hes gonna follow you in the correct direction.
