Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
I just upgraded my computer from a PIII 866 with built in videocard and an extremely crappy set up to an AMD 2500+ with a radeon 9600XT and an asus motherboard and 512 RAM and a new case. So i took the stuff that i need from my old case and started putting it in my new one, i've got everything wired up properly, the problem is that when i start up the computer, the bootup will go normally, but when it's supposed to go to the windows loading screen, the screen goes blank....nothing....my monitor gives its "no signal detected" message and nothing happens. I connected my hard drive to my dads computer and the hard drive refused to work at all, so i reformatted it and installed windows a-new on it. When i go back to my computer to retry it, the exact same thing happens. Is there some compatibility issue between AMD processors and ATI videocards? Do i need to do something for the AGP slot? What the hell is going on??????
All help is greatly appreciated, and will be returned with +rep

Re: Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
what windows version?
Let me clarify. If its windows XP, it has to be installed on the computer you want to use. IE, you cant install it on one computer then swap it to another.
If windows XP detects a change in motherboard, it will NOT run, you can call up and get some code or something by telilng em you just switched motherboards, but considering you already formated, you just need to format it on the computer you want to use then install XP.
So, put the HD back in your computer, put in the XP CD, then reformat and install XP.

Re: Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
if you had multiple hard drives, or seperate partitions.
only the main/windows drive/partition needs to be reformated and installed on.
like for example, i have 2 hard drives. then split into a couple 40gig partitions, and a couple 80 gig partitions.
everything i want to keep i install on a seperate partition, everything thats REALLY importartant i install on one of the partitions on the 2nd drive.
If something goes wrong with windows and i have to reformat, i loose only windows because all my stuff is saved on one of the other partitions or drives. so that stuff will stay.

If your still having the No Signal Detected problem, go into the bios and look for something that says either "Init Display First" or "First Display option" (something along those lines) and make sure its on AGP. Sometimes the bios default is set to PCI and the motherboard could be confused and not picking up on the 9600xt being in AGP.

I tried both your advices, i reformatted my hd plugged it in empty into the new computer...as soon as it gets past the MB booting screen....it just goes blank...and i get the same message. And the Primary Visual control adaptor is set on AGP...THIS SUCKS!

Re: Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
here is some advice from me (DON'T SAY ANYTHING!)
1) get a new HD
2) get a new Mother board
3) get a profesional to put it together for you
4) get a new video card
5) throw everything out
6) throw everything out the window
7) use a sledge hammer on it
8) take it back for a refund
9) don't complain!
10) erm...hmm...i dunno...

does it let you install XP while pluged into your computer?
also, make sure the jumpers are correct on the drive, this shouldnt be a problem tho cuz it sounds like its reconizes the drive ok.

check the jumpers on the back of the hard drive. there would be 2 rows of 5 pins, and a block that goes vertically connecting one row.
Its differnt for each hard drive but they normally say what it should be ontop.
if its your only drive, they should be set to just master.
if you have 2 it should be set to master WITH slave. and have the 2nd set to slave.
And are you sure you have the ribon cable connected with the right end, i believe the end end goes in first drive. the middle connector goes to 2nd.
Also, go into the bios, make sure your boot sequence is..
Floppy
CD ROM (or dvd)
Hard drive.
and check over the hard drive settings in bois for anything funny lookin.

Re: Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
When I had my 9800 I had the same problem when I tried to hook in two monitors one would go blank and the other would boot fine. If your card has two outputs Id say try the other hook in or you can try another monitor.
EDIT: and make sure you disabled your on board video

Re: Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
doen't come with onboard video ...this is getting really annoying, i'm going to check the jumper settings on my MB just to make sure that its not set manually on the MB itself to use PCI...this is causing me a lot of distress, also my RAM may be the problem, does it make any difference in what slots you stick the sticks in? i have 2 sticks of 256 MB (and its Ultra, so its not a question aboot shoddy brands), my MB doesn't have the dual channel slots, so i don't think it should matter..does anyone know otherwise????

Re: Oi!! Problem, help would be greatly appreciated
as long as the motherboard supports that type it doesnt matter where you put em.
