This update is about a day late.
On tuesday I went to the set of the television show Dead Like Me. It's a show that for now is only on ShowTime. If you get the chance, I reccomend you check it out. It's a great show. They also have released the first season on DVD which hopefully I can go get today if Dyne gets his dad's car.
I'll give you a little background as to what the show is about.
The main character George (short for Georgia) is going nowhere fast. She dropped out of college and has just gotten a dead end job at the Happy Time Temporary Service Agency. George predicts that she'll spend the rest of her life in this dead end job. And she's right about that. On her lunch break, George is struck by a falling piece of space debris (the toilet seat from the MIR space station's zero G toilet to be precise). Upon her death, George inevatably meets the grim reapers. There isn't just one, there's thousands of them. If you aren't good enough to go to heaven and not bad enough to go to hell, you become a reaper, as is George's predicament. She is introduced to the reapers she'll be working with. Every reaper has a designated area and specialty. George and her group are assigned to murders, suicides and accidents. Once you reap your set amount of souls you can move on to the next stage (whatever that may be). People can see the reapers too, I might mention. But they look just like anyone else. Now George has to cope with the new found burden of soul reaping as well as getting a day job for money. She gets another job at the Happy Time Temp Agency. As George and her new friends have to reap souls and go on their misadventures, George learns to cope with life after life.
So, that's pretty much what the show is about. It's very funny and very well written.
Now on to my day on set.
Had to leave my house about 7:30ish and drive out to the set. All of the scenes filmed today took place in the Happy Times Temporary Services Agency.
One of the great things about the film industry is they feed you really well. I had bacon, eggs, sausage, hashbrowns and orange juice for breakfast. It was fantastic. I met the director of the episode (who I was to be watching all day). The whole reason I was there was to watch the director (Steve Beers) do his job and to learn how the professional do it.
The sound crew got me a comtek. If you have one of these, you cna perfectly hear what the acotrs are saying provided you have the headphones on. So for all of the scenes, I got to sit behind the monitor that the director watches and hear and see the actors acting. I was introduced to almost everyone (even a couple of the actresses) and everyone on set that i met was really friendly. The props and costumes girls were all over me when they got bored. They were really flirty and really funny too.
I hung out with the script supervisor a lot. Her and I talekd about the script (which I had read a day prior to the shooting) and taught me some things about timing.
The scenes that were being performed were great. And one of the actresses was smoking hot. There were a couple of big dialogue scenes, a chase and even a stunt. It was neat to watch all of this.
It was long day (13 hours +travel time!) but it was well worth going. I picked up a lot of things and learned about the imp[ortance of having lots of different angles.
I quite enjoyed my day on set. I hope I can get back on sometime soon.
This is the main character George who is about be be killed by a falling toilet seat.
Here she is being killed by a falling toilet seat.
This is Deloris, George's boss at Happy Time. The character is one of my favorites.
I can't find a good picture of Meghan Black (hot girl who works at Happy Time) that isn't hosted by Tripod.
But, yeah.
