Default Old friends

June 4/2004

I was at my friend's commencement (graduation) ceremony last night. This was a girl I grew up with. We were always together when we were kids. Then I moved away 5 years ago. Now whenever I see her we seem so different to eachother. Not like we're best friends but more like aquaintances. It's weird. We've only seen eachother about 9 or 10 times in the past 5 years. We've really grown apart and I hadn't realized it until last night. It's kind of painful.

I ran into another old friend though who I haven't seen since I've moved away from my old town. She didn't recognize me at first and looked at me like I was crazy when I said hi. Then it clicked and she freaked out. Started hugging me and shouting "Oh my god!". It was nice to see her. She looked great.

Growing apart from your childhood friend is tough. But I'll try to make due. I'm probably going to phone her sometime soon so we can catch up or something.

Friends never last. When I moved into the city (used to live in a smaller town about an hour away), I lost all my friend's from my old school, it felt like my life was starting over.

But I accept the fact that the friends you have now probably won't be your friends say... 10-20 years from now, if that. It's just the way things go... sad, unfortunately, but true.

Not quite true. Yes maybe if they are friends through association of a school, but I've had 4 best friends that I've known since birth, and I can't imagine that we won't always stay in touch. Or parents are friends, so it made sense that we became friends. We've gotten along very well and are all in a band together, so we not only work together, but hang out too...Maybe later when people start moving on with their careers/home lives whatever it could be difficult, but we'll still always see each other.

When I moved from Ontario way back in Kindergarten, I lost a lot of friends, even my girlfriend. Her name was Olga; she was cute.

But I was one of the "cool" kids over here until all the other cool people moved away here, and were replaced with other kids. They took over the cool. And I never got my cool back again. But I'm cool again now, I think.

Well in your case you're fortunate that you are in a band together and that you guys have parents that are friends. But, I'm saying, for the most part, you lose friends and make new ones as you get older.
