Politics..shmolitics
I know I usually post non-serious things... and a lot of the time it's has a lot of subtle (or not so subtle) undertones... this is something completely different.
This is good reading and shows just how insensitive and biggoted some Republicans are. Emphasis on SOME. Feel free to post any opinions...

I share your sentiments exactly. Now run! The republicans will come. And they will shout things at us and call us ignorant. Run while you still can!
Oh...and hate crime laws are stupid. Any form of assault is a hate crime regardless of the race of the person you're commiting it against.

Re: Politics..shmolitics
I have no doubt there are more than a few bigoted Republicans in office in Congress. Strom Thurmond was almost blatant about his bigotry even to the end of his life (he died, right?) Look at Trent Lott too.
And there are also many Senators who want to go way to far in the opposite direction, as is emphasized in the link you gave.
Hate Crime laws are silly and WILL result in abuse of the constitution. There are already cases where people have been prosecuted and sued for using racial epithets. Now I don't condone the use of racial slurs, but we are a free country and if on e chooses to use them, they should be allowed to with the only punishment being that they make themselves look like ignorant fools. That is free speech.
As Dyflon said, every violent crime is a hate crime, and all hate crimes will lead to is the trampling of our inherent rights as Americans.
The problem is that I doubt many will fight hate crime bills purely of of political correctness. No one, especially not those in oublic office, want to be portrayed as racists for not going along with such blatantlt prejudicial legislation.

Re: Politics..shmolitics
The US/gov't is so flawed that its nearly impossible to fix anything anymore with our government or the laws. Congress alway want to pass bills that do only half-assed work and then just say "Oh, we'll fix it later". Then when they actually get to fixing it 15 years down the road, they completely f*ck it up. But oh well, thats the price Americans pay to keep this country going.....to an extent.

Well I'm not a republican, I'm independent. I have many of the same reservations about the republican party that many democrats do, namely the religious right and corporate cow-towing. I don't think corporations are evil, but I do think that Bush is throwing way too much influence to them especially on the issue of the environment.
Plus, have you seen the new spending plan? GOOD LORD!! And this is from a administration that has a supposed stand on fiscal responsibility. Special interests strike again.
Now republicans aren't the only ones with special interests as the democrats have a bunch of their own too. You think Dean got all that money from private donations? Hell no.
This is why I love McCain, but I know he will never get elected. He supports the military, is truly fiscally responsible (see him on The Daily Show? He was great.) and he gives the impression that his ethics mean more to him than campaign dollars. He even supported a bill to reform campaign donations, which was not surprisingly shot down by his fellow congressmen.
I even voted democratic for my state gubernatorial election, voting for Rendell, even though now I wish I didn't as he seems to raise taxes with the same regularity that he takes a dump.
But I am a conservative, because while I don't trust the republican party fully, I trust them far more than I do the democratic party which seems to move farther left with each passing day.
Well enough of my rambling...

Why do you hate Republicans so much? You obviously know nothing about politics since you didn't/don't know the difference between Republicans and Conservatives.

Whenever anyone says anything bad about Busch, Cheney, or republicans in general, you instantly come out by saying we dont know what we're talking about, or no nothing about politics because blah blah blah. I DONT LIKE BUSH BECAUSE I DONT LIKE HIM. Get that through your head. I know what I know and I know I dont like bush nuff said peace out yo.

Re: Politics..shmolitics
I stopped making true arguements in political threads because Strangler is just about the only person I see trying to make logical interperetations for both sides.
Honestly? I could be turned into a Democrat if people didn't senselessly criticize Bush. You know Bushisms and that chimp page? There are so many democrats, and people of no importance even, that slip on their words now and then. Most Bushisms are taken out of context. And what... the fact that Bush, like all humans, resemble apes makes being a Republican foolish?
I sway to intelligence. I stick with Bush... because despite the fact that he has troubles, he's hanging in there. It's like it with every president. The opposing party finds everything possibly wrong, and exxagerates it.
Dylflon. While the United States does affect Canada... Canadians will never have a vote until they are a part of the United States. That option has been open, but I know it'd be messy. Until something like that happens, Canada has to keep its mind in its own affairs.
Keep your eye on Canada, and see what's going on there. I can assure you... as in all politics, not everything is peachy.
