MegaMan Collection
Well, hell the GameCube hasn't had enough ports/remakes. Anyhow, Capcom has announced a MegaMan Collection with MegaMan 1-8, Mega Man: Power Fighters and another MEgaMan fighting game on one disc.
The game is due in Feb of early next year. Should be fun for MegaMan fans. Anyhow, here is the story.
Quote:
SUNNYVALE, Calif - September 12, 2003 - Capcom today takes players on a retrospective journey through the evolution of their renowned blue action hero with the announcement of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, a compilation of Mega Man titles for the PlayStationâ2 computer entertainment system and the Nintendo GameCube™. Featuring hours of endless entertainment, the Mega Man Anniversary Collection is an anthology of classic Mega Man games (Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 8) from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, PlayStation game console and arcade systems. This set will also include two never-before-released-in-the-US Mega Man arcade games: Mega Man the Power Battle and Mega Man 2 the Power Fighters. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection is scheduled to release throughout North American in February 2004. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating is pending.
"The Mega Man Anniversary Collection pays tribute to the brainchild behind this multimillion unit selling franchise, Keiji Inafune, and the original games that he created," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "It gives gamers, who have not experienced the Mega Man phenomenon, an opportunity to play the titles that redefined the platform genre."
In the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, players will be challenged to see if they have the skills to master some of the most extreme Mega Man titles ever released and to unlock a cache of bonus features that includes 30 minutes of anime, producer interviews, footage from the original TV commercials, and a history of the series. This ultimate set provides a comprehensive look at Mega Man’s progression through the years, as this near human robot embarked on his journey to becoming one of the longest running videogame icons to date. Take a trip down memory lane, reliving Mega Man's numerous quests to defeat Dr. Wily and his attempts to control the world and its resources. Gamers will reacquaint themselves with past adversaries such as Elect Man, Metal Man, Gemini Man, Pharaoh Man, Centaur Man, and Tengu Man, just to name a few. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection encompasses everything a new and hard-core fan would want for their existing library.
The Mega Man Anniversary Collection will include the following features:
- 10 Mega Man games on one disk
- Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 8
- Two never before released in the US Mega Man arcade games: Mega Man the Power Battle and Mega Man 2 the Power Fighters
- Additional content – Unlock hidden original artwork, producer interviews, footage from the original TV commercials, anime videos and information about the entire franchise
- Updated soundtracks

Wouldn't you know it. My prayers have been answered. Ever since they put out all the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games on one game disc, I thought they just had to do this with Mega Man. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait five months for this to come to pass.
I hope they keep the graphics the same. As well as the tone of the music. Classic NES-quality music. I guess it just brings me back to the old days, moreso than it would if they were to enhance the music and graphics.
So, what's next? Castlevania?

hehe, i actually hope they update the graphics a bit for the earlier megamans, because....err...they kinda suck a** in the early nintendo ones....the best one IMO is 7 (not X7 which is coming out soon)

A Castlevania compilation would be nice, but what I REALLY want out of them is a port of Dracula X (The game starring Richter that was only released in Japan, save for a crappy watered-down version on SNES)... Back when they ported that one game to PSX a few years back (I forgot the name), the developer had hinted that he wanted to do the same with some of the other games... And Dracula X would be a swell choice (^_______^

Just one question though. Do we know if this is really true? Where did BreakABone get this information? I reported it at another message board and somone had to burst my bubble and say it could be a hoax. I know that I first found out from somone who got the information from 411wrestling.com. It better not be a hoax though. I was hoping for this ever since Sonic Mega Collection came out, and I'd hate to be played.

I can't believe you won't take my word for it
But if you need proof

Oh well. At least now I can shove the proof in their faces.

Well apparently there IS a chance of some alterations in this collection, according to someone from another forum. Here's what he said:
Alright everyone, I have all the details on the changes to the old school Mega Man games. Generally speaking, the games are going to be ported from Japanese re-releases (Mega Man 1-6 were released on seperate disks on the PSX in Japan in 1999). They will be translated, and tweaked as nessasary. I got Rockman 4 for PSX just the other day, and it alone was loaded with enough extras to keep me busy for the next few months. Here are what you guys can count on with the games:
Mega Man 1-3:
a) A "crisper" 8-bit graphic look
b) The original game, a "revised" version of the game with extras, including mini missions, boss fights, a gallery with new artwork of the bosses and characters in the respective game, and upgrades for Mega Man
c) Capcom is probably going to remix the soundtrack, but there is nothing to confirm this.
Mega Man 4-6:
a) Same as above
b) all soundtracks will be remixed/remastered (you can disable this, and go with the original soundtracks). I have heard the remixes and they sound 10 times better than the original. They were able to use more advanced instruments such guitar, keyboards, and even piano in some cases
Mega Man 7:
Very little is known at this point. All we know is Capcom of America is remixing the soundtrack. Since Capcom of Japan is not getting very involved in the remixing, we better hope they don't screw it up.
Mega Man 8:
We know nothing.
