Default Knoppix (Easy Linux)

This is really, really, awesome.

Knoppix is basically a demo Linux distribution. You don't have to reformat your hard drive or anything. Knoppix boots off of a CD, in which you burn the iso to. So here's what you have to do:

Go to this URL: http://linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=44 and download "Knoppix - KNOPPIX_V3.2 EN (English)." It should take about an hour on broadband. After that you need a CD burner and a free CD-RW or CD-R to burn the iso image to the CD. How to burn the iso image is different in every burning program. Here: http://linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/howtoburn.html covers some programs and how to burn the iso image. It's really not that difficult and should take a few minutes.

After you burn the iso image to a CD you need to boot from that CD. You may need to go into your BIOs and change the boot priority to your CD drive in front of your hard drive. You can get into your BIOs by tapping one of the F keys before Windows boots. It's usually F1, F2, F6, F10. It's one of them. Once you get that taken care of reboot your PC with the Knoppix CD. When the boot prompt comes up type in: "knoppix lang=en" and then hit enter. After that Knoppix will recognize which type of hardware you have and such and in a few minutes you will have Linux! Each time you want to run Knoppix you have to boot from this CD though. It's pretty cool for people who just want to see what Linux is like.

If you have any questions please post them here. It took me a total of 1 1/2 hours to get Knoppix running. That's pretty fast if you ask me.

How do you feel about Linux?

Did you have any unfamiliar feelings or thoughts as it was booting?

Do you feel more comfortable in a Linux environment?

Did you feel more efficient working in a Linux environment?

Does Linux put the "P" in personal or do you feel like a carbon copy product manufactured and stuffed in a small box?

Did it come with tons of free applications that normally cost a lot of money?
