Computer Retard needs help
ok, Lately my computer has been really screwy, it's been lagging greatly and a lot of my programs won't start up. These are just a few of my problems.
1. (This one really only pertains to Mozilla Firebird users) Everytime I have had to open up the Mozilla firebird browser, I get the window that says that I need to select a profile. I'l select defauly then check the box that says to not display window on startup, but everytime I'm starting up the browser I keep getting that damn window. I've tried looking in options how to use disable it but can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me out with this problem? I have no idea what I did to make this happen.
2. A lot of my programs are being screwy. Many programs have been getting the "****** is not responding." and it closes. This includes Explorer which happens many times. Do you think I just need to reformat my comp? The only problem I have with that is I use Windows 98 instead of Windows XP. I've heard it;s easy to do on XP, but does anyone know how to do it on Windows 98?

Re: Computer Retard needs help
yes_yes i am:
what OS is it?
if it's XP...then yes there is a way around it, go in to safe mode (hold F8 during boot up) log in as administrator and delete the password on your account...unless you have a password for admin too and you forgot that...then your pretty much screwed.
as for you one winged:
have you tried to clean your disk (using disk cleanup)
and have you tried to defrag?
try those and see how it goes.

There's usually a switch on the motherboard you can throw or a jumper you can move that will clear the password.

Re: Computer Retard needs help
if its a password on the bios. you could just take the battery out of the motherboard then put it back in.

I've tried defragging, but it will not work. I'll leave it on for awhile and it does nothing! Can you explain why that is?
Also is there a disc cleanup in Windows 98 or do I have to download freeware or something?

from firbird projects section: PLEASE NOTE: You should create a new profile for Mozilla Firebird 0.6. To create a new profile, start Mozilla Firebird by running MozillaFirebird.exe -p and click on the "Create Profile" button. If you don't want to delete your old profile and are willing to incur the risk of new bugs, you should at least delete your profile's downloads.rdf file.
You must also delete your old Mozilla Firebird directory rather than just overwriting the files there. Not doing so WILL result in problems and you should not file any bugs on Mozilla Firebird unless you've first done a clean install and tested on a new profile. As Mozilla Firebird stabilizes more this will not be necessary but until then these steps are absolutely necessary.

type in this in run
"C:\filedirectoryforfirebird\MozillaFirebird\MozillaFirebird.exe" -p
for example mine is "C:\Firebird2\Mozillafirebird\MozillaFirebird.exe" -p
or
I have gotten the profile screen with just MozillaFirebird.exe -p sometimes.
Then create a new profile after deleting the default you already have. I find if I only have one profile (new one) I don't see that profile screen unless I have two or more profiles.
but sadly at moment links like http://texturizer.net for extensions and themes is down right now and I had just went from a customized June28 build to the July 2nd build and only found out after change. There are alternate places for both but does not have what I want or need either in version or available.

98 has a lot of security holes in it. And it's about 5 years old. And it's unstable.
I'd upgrade to Xp.

I could install XP, the problem is my comp is 5 years old. Only 128 SD RAM and 498 mhz. I think my computer would blow up. (Not literally of course, but it would **** it up possibly)

Ok, that worked. Thanks you so much. I barely know any Mozilla Firebird users :|... pity
NOTE:
I know I'm double posting, but don't really want to put 2 quotes in one post.

as for reformatting if your still interested, all you have to do is start up your computer with the boot disk, start up without cd rom support, and in dos do the following:
format c:
and all the other bugs cept for the mozilla firebird, i had that at one point, let me guess: the internet explorer will cause an error when more than one window is up, in otherwords popups = error, same with the disk defragmentor. and i would definately suggest xp over 98, but if you really think u'r comp won't be able to handle it, Mellenium edition worx well 2, and if you think that that won't work either my last suggestion is to use windows 2000, it might not support games and useless applications as well as ME or XP but its a billion times more stable than 98
