Default PSP details straight from Ken Kutaragi

Click-ability

....On the PSP

Quote:
The PSP is built from completely new processor technology, making it capable of smooth graphics that can even outclass the PlayStation 2, as well as three-dimensional sound. To that we added Memory Stick support, letting users enjoy applications beyond video games. We are also using the UMD (Universal Media Disc) format. This format easily stands up to the cutting edge of media design; it can hold 1.8 gigabytes, three times what a CD can hold, and it can store two hours of DVD-quality video. Since our E3 announcement, we have received strong declarations of support from many developers and publishers, and the security system we are introducing to the PSP has attracted serious attention from the movie industry. We at the Sony Group want to continue developing the system in assorted areas with all of this content in mind.

Ehhhh..... I have a feeling that won't turn out to be true.. maybe.. Possibly... First they say PSX, then possibly outclassing PS2? When GBA is capable of basically SNES stuff (or maybe PSX quality 2D only)?

-better anti-alaising capability than PS2
-memory stick slot can be used with digital cameras, camcorders, and more
-enough space to hold hours of high quality video (yes!)
-strong 3rd party interest (that was a given IMO)
-movie industry could make official UMD formatted movies (record companies to follow suit?)

A very ambitious project...thank you Sony, for taking continuous strides through the boundries of entertainment

I think he meant that the smoothness of the graphics will outclass such in PS2 games. (see: anti-alaising, thanks to the NURB technology)

May 28, 2003 - Rumors that Sony Computer Entertainment's PS3 will be a set-top box of sorts were only strengthened as Sony announced the PSX, a not-so-subtle segue into the unreleased iteration of the console. With the ability to record television shows, play movies, hop on the Internet, and record DVDs among other things, it seems that Sony wants to make the PSX (and eventually the PS3) the one and only box sitting next to you television.
But what about the PSP? More than just a handheld game console, the PSP will in fact be a portable multimedia system. The wide-aspect screen, support for MPEG 4 and ATRAC, and its support for USB 2.0 should have clued you in already, but a new slide from Sony's PSX presentation confirms this. Just take a look at the image below.

So, games, music, security, and movies support are planned for the PSP. And with support and interest from game developers/studios and film studios, the PSP should be the next step in portable entertainment. Though there already exists pocket PCs and the like that have similar functions and abilities, none have the power and storage of the PSP. At 1.8 GB per disc, using MPEG 4 compression, one could fit four to five hours of relatively high-quality video on one disc. And at resolution of the PSP's screen (480 x 272 dots), using lower quality video may be negligible, allowing for even longer movies and videos. You can imagine the possibilities.

Also, in the slide below, it is implied that the PSP will also incorporate PDA functions as the image shows a Sony Clie (Sony's version of a Palm) being incorporated in the PSP.

Sony looks to dominate the home and portable electronics market with their all-in-one systems. Will Sony receive a response from Nintendo or Microsoft? Only time will tell.

Stay tuned to IGN for more news regarding the PSP and the PSX.

Yes, seems very interesting. And apparently many developers have signed on to develop for it, too... that's always good.

Sony, stick to the Clie, at least that was done well.

*sigh*

Can I borrow your copy of the PSP? Because apparently you must have the retail version of it in your hands to warrant such a bold statement. A lot of your 'opinions' instantly lose credibility when there's absolutely no backing to them.

You said for yourself that a Sony handheld product was well done. What on Earth is 100% certain of stopping the PSP from eventually becoming a quality product?

PDA = Good idea
PDA/Game system = Bad idea

Cell phone = Good idea
Cell phone/game system = Bad idea

You think I'm against Sony, I'm not. Try again.

I'm not 'trying' at anything other than to believe what you posted was anything but vague and unexplained.

Again, as I ask so often...PLEASE EXPLAIN.

WHY is a PDA/Game system a bad idea?

ok... this is supposed to be a game system. Wut is the ****ing point to add a PDA to this thing. PDA's already have games you can add on to it, it could be considered a game system.

So what is it? ... a PDA!

I agree with Gekko, a game system should stay as a game system. They shouldn't make it into something else that it shouldn't be. Almost all of those systems have failed in the gaming industry.

Mixing things is never a good idea. PSP will be an oversized crappy PDA, and an overpriced game system.

PDAs make poor cameras players and MP3 players. It works for a lot of things.

N-Gauge will make a horrible phone. PSP will make a horrible PDA. But guess what? You pay for it.

Like Sony's Playstation with CD playing capability? Or Sony's Playstation 2 with CD and DVD playing capability?

Jesus Christ...it's like multi-functioning products are foreign to you. Hey, part of most refridgerators are freezers too! But they'll never sell. Maybe you don't realize that you're using one of the prime examples for multi-functioning products right now: Your computer. I thank GOD that he gave men the ability to use their penises for urinating and making love...because otherwise we might all be bored with it
