25 GCN MARIO PARTY 4 Nintendo
Gamecube sales went up big time...but they're still behind XBox and way behind PS2. Nintendo is offering a free copy of GOTY 2002 Metroid Prime with the system, sells for $50 less and it still can't catch Xbox.
Also interesting to note that these sales figures seem to differ from the earlier ones posted. 4 Xbox games beating MP in sales, for example.

I'm surprised at how much of a jump over Jan. that the 'Cube did. But I can understand with the whole free great game deal. And how are PS2's still being sold at such a high rate? I'd expect sales to slow since enough people own them, but then again, PS2's break down a lot faster then other consoles seem to. But thats just from seeing it first hand and hearing a few stories.

exactly, Jonbo...the only reason the PS2 is selling better than the other systems is because 300,000 americans had to buy new PS2s to replace their broken ones in the month of February.

Damn, Xbox is leading GCN by some 1 million units...
Wait a minute; the all GCN models sold about 3.4 million in January...so did the new bundle sell 167k, or 400k to reach 3.8 million?
Something doesn't sound right here...

I can explain the discrepancy between the numbers (while not actually numbers) this list is organized by the amount of money each game brought in, not the number sold, so well there were more Metroid Prime and Mario Party 4 sold than Xbox games, they were given away and only charged $.01 for each, the rest of the difference is made up of people who actually brought the game.

I don't see Sony actually doing that simply because they lead everybody by such leaps and bounds. There really wouldn't be a point to simply because they're beating the **** out of everyone already at a similar price point with NOTHING included...
You sure that's not based on money earned, rather than sales for that month BreakABone? Its completely feasible DOAXVB outsold Mario Party 4 or Metroid Prime in Feburary. I would think the free copies of MP with hardware sales wouldn't count as indivdual game sales. All the Xboxes that sold with Sega GT and Jet Set Radio Future would mean that both those games, either individually as a two pack, would be constantly showing up on monthly sales lists.
And don't just think that a console that's $50 less and includes a game would outsell the established player and the player with the deepest pockets. Hello Dreamcast? Even when Sega was selling DCs for $99 and included two stellar, big time selling sports games no one was biting. What's so different from Nintendo doing the same thing with an apparently stellar, apparently stellar selling game? Maybe the sales are a good indication that potential console owners actually DO care about strong third party support and market presence and not lower prices and a small smattering of first party titles.

I don''t think it's ONLY the bundle that's helping... maybe it's the fact that there is also a free Zelda game and the new Zelda is on the horizon.

If all of a sudden 1000's of PS2s just stopped working, I think we would have heard about it by now.

Not to mention I think some of those people would just get it repaired or something instead of buying a whole new one... Sony does have a repair thingy place for PS2s, right?
