Im getting a new Panasonic 53". $2500 though, and thats major discount. Too much for you still I suppose, especially in US. But I like Panasonic TVs, there good. You should keep that in mind, though just about any brand is good enough if its your price range.

Even though I would love to have a HDTV, they are to rich for me.
What about the HDTV compatable ones, and beside's I thought there still weren't to many programs in Canada that are broadcasted in HDTV format yet???.

He's talking about a plasma TV. And yes they're a HDTV. Just not projection or tube.
I was looking at a toshiba 42 inch widescreen for 2500. I still don't know if I want a tube or projection.

^Or so they say ^
I was watching a preview of TechTv and a host started talking about having HDTV on your computer for $400 bucks, instead of getting a expensive TV and just when I was interested in finding out more on that they switched to the discovery channel

No offesne, but you people are crazy! Number one, the FCC has said 2005 is the "madatroy" dtae for all broadcasts to be in HDTV, than they changed it to 2006 after 9/11 because NYC lost it's HD Trasnmitters, than they started talking about 2007. Also, they'll SIMULCAST all shows in Anolog as well for yearts to come, like 20 more years, Anolog sets won't be banned. You can buya Balck & White TV still, but it's just not common, you don'tneed to waste money on an HDTV this early in the stage, wait until the price drops in 2006 when everything will be in HDTV Simulcast.
Number 2, HDTVs have DRM (Digital Right Management) in them that mkaes some TV Shows "encruypted"so youc an;t record them, in other words, youmay not be taping that show for playback ata later date that you're missing because you need to go to the store, and some Onp-demand shows cost more than others.
Number 3, DSS and Digital Cable will requir3e you to "pay per view" for ALL Sports programs, and eventuaslly ALL porgrams in general, so you won't eb channel surfing the way youa re nwo unless you're swimming on money.
In other wordss, HDTVs are comingof age, but rthey're still over-priced unles you're an early-adopter, and unless you really need a new set, or you have a small set youc an't see, I'd advise waiting a few years. Ihad to geta flat CRT from SOny because my 13" set was causing eye strain, I now have a 27" WEGA, ina few yeras I'll probably sell it on eBay for an HDTV depnding on the legislation for DRM and weather or not the MPAA/RIAA goes ot court for encrypting boradcasts so theyc an't be freocrded digitally, they probably will, but HDTV is something that yu shouuld hold off on for now, or if you do get one, get a TV/Monitor Hybrid, and if you're in the USA or Canada wait and see if you can get a Multisystem capableof NTSC and PAL, PAL looks better but the stupid American TV companies chose NTSC due to WW2, it's not too bad, but PAL is more vibrant with colors, gekko can explain it, Japan and the USA are the only countires that really use NTSC, everyone else uses PAL, including the UK.

Yeah, my bad...I didn't mean to say "required" to have one...just that's when they were gonna start broadcasting and such...I'm just gonna wait till they get a bit cheaper anyway. that'll be a little while I suppose.
