Shhh! GameTavern Rumor Buzz (E3 Edition pt.1)
Welcome, folks, to the first ever edition of GameTavern's own Rumor Buzz.
I'm Perfect Stu. Playstation 2 is the main focus here...PS2@E3 in particular. None of this is written in stone, but instead growing rumors and educated beliefs or what we'll see in the future.
*NOTE* Perfect Stu isn't an industry insider. Nor is he, in any way, intelligent (contrary to popular belief). Stu is just a well-natured young man with a 2nd grade education and a love for everything videogame related.
*ahem*
At this year's Electronic Entertaiment Expo, Sony (SCE) looks to further establish themselves as one of the greatest game publishers on the planet. One may think how they would do this? Games, games, and more (quality) games. Announcements, unveilings, videos and playables. What can we look forward to? I'll say this is a pretty good estimate:
Gran Turismo 4
-A select few industry insiders (those lucky bastards) have gotten a glimpse of Polyphony Digital's current build of their latest installment of the ever-so-popular Gran Turismo series. They were absolutely stunned at what they saw, even though the game has a fair ways to go. The game should be playable online, and will feature an even greater amount of car selection. If anything, this looks to be Sony's Flagship E3 title.
Jak and Daxter 2
-Yes, I bet some have already heard the announcements...Jak and Daxter 2 is in the works. And we'll get a good look at it at E3. Naughty Dog promises top-of-the-line visuals, and a longer/deeper single player experience.
Ratchet and Clank 2
-The original has sold over 1.5 million units worldwide since its release last October...so one shouldn't be surprised that a sequel is in the works (supposedly). This will most likely be an announcement, as Insomniac hasn't had much time to throw together a video. A sequel to easily one of my favourite PS2 games? I can't wait.
Syphon Filter Online
-This would be the first next-gen installment of the Syphon Filter franchise. No word as to whether this will be an online-only game, or a full single player game with online capability. Either way, Gabe looks to make his return in fine style...word of mouth is that this could make Playstation enthusiasts salivate.
Colony Wars Online
-A space shooter for the Playstation, Colony Wars was dubbed by many as the best of its kind at the time. One can only hope that its transition into the online world will be a good one. I can't wait to see what they'll do with this one.
More?
-Yes, we can be sure that there will be some more SCE-published titles that will make their way to E3. I wouldn't be surprised to see an online version of Hot Shots Golf, a new project from the team that made ICO (an astonding classic) possibly a FPS, and maybe even new installments of SOCOM and The Getaway.
Other developers?
E3, for Playsation 2, is not all about Sony. We'll undoubtably see some big-name blockbusters from 3rd party developers. Want a list? Here's a reasonable one:
-Metal Gear Solid 3 (Konami)
-3D Castlevania (Konami)
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Konami)
-Chaos Legion (Capcom)
-Resident Evil Online (Capcom)
-Final Fantasy XI (Square/Enix)
-Final Fantasy XII (Square/Enix)
-Dragon Quest VIII (Square/Enix)
-a new installment of the Chrono series (Square/Enix)
-Kingdom Hearts 2 (Square/Enix)
-Star Ocean 3 (Square/Enix)
-a new Medal of Honor (Electronic Arts)
-EA Sports 2004 (Electronic Arts)
-SSX3 (EA BIG)
-a new James Bond 007 game (Electronic Arts)
-Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Electronic Arts
-a LOTR RTS (Electronic Arts)
-GTA4 (Rockstar North)
-Manhunt (Rockstar North)
-Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness 2 (Eidos)
...and much more.
/end transmission
