Default Help buying a new PC.

My dad and I are in the early planning stages of buying a new computer. So I figured why not ask the guidance of GT to help me get a good computer at the best possible price. My dad is willing to go as high as 1,200 bucks, not including shipping. We arent going to bother with building our own either...so dont even try with that. So basically I want you guys to find me the best PC I can get for 1,200 dollars. All we need is the computer itself, a keyboard, and speakers. Im hoping you guys know some good off-brand computer sites where we can find a good deal. The 400mhz computer I have now was purchased from www.abspc.com You can basically build your own computer there, they put it together...and then ship it to you. But im sure there are better sites out there. Thanks.

Here is a place that I go locally for most of my computer parts. It is a small business with many customers. Service is really great and sometimes they have real good deals. I've never dealt with them online though so I don't know how that is. Its called:

General NanoSystems

www.nanosys1.com

Check that out and maybe you can find something that you like. They sell base stuff that you can customize to your liking.

I jsut ahve one peice of advice:

Get a case that you really like, because that is the only thing you'll be seeing of your computer for hte next 2-4 years.

I really do love the apple's design, but you seem to forget about my price range. I want a powerful machine...the apple's just wont cut it for that price.

Hey, as some may know from my posted Desktop, I haven't gone shopping for computers for ages... and therefor know quite little about the limits of new computers.

However, I'm sure you'll find good deals over at:
Best Buy

There are desktops anywhere from $300 to $2300.

And, if it would save you any time, here's my quick pick. My sister has an HP... and it downright sucks. But, she bought hers at "super bargain price". I'm quite sure that compromised the RAM.

You need not worry though, for that computer has a hefty 512 RAM. And yes, that sounds like a lot to me... 'cause my computer doesn't break 100 (96MB to be exact)!

Good luck finding a great computer for an equally great price.

well..

i would NEVER recommend getting a computer at best buy. never ever ever.

they are cheap. they're also a bit older. put together sloppy in many cases.

there are many online places that do soley computer stuff id get it from one of them.

Gateway is one of my favs they have some very decent prices and i've never had a problem with em at all. Dell too to a lesser extent.

building own is always best. and its fun. but we wont go into that cuz ya ruled it out.

Well, at least I'm now informed. I'll keep that in mind the next time I purchase.

I'm in the same situation, wanting to spend (being able to spend) around $1200..... I'm leaning toward ordering from a site someone showed me, pretty good deals, let me know if anyone has experience with this site
