Default X-men Legends (A X-men RPG! Damn!)

Here's the full details...

February 20, 2003 - In the most recent issue of Game Informer (March 2003), Activision has lifted the lid on its most ambitious X-Men title to date, X-Men Legends, a game we first heard about nearly two years ago.

X-Men Legends is a console-based RPG scheduled to arrive in late 2003 for PS2, GameCube and Xbox, and incorporates 19 of the most popular Marvel mutants from various time periods, dating back nearly 40 years ago. While the game tells the coming-of-age story of little-known character Magma (a.k.a., Alison Crestmere, who first appeared in New Mutants), players can pick four characters to engage in simultaneous combat, including Iceman, Gambit, Forge, Beast, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Angel and seven more.

In development with Raven Software, the critically acclaimed development team behind PC favorites Soldier of Fortune, Hexen and Heretic, X-Men Legends is the developer's first console game -- and its first RPG.

According to Raven's top honchos Brian Pelletier and Patrick Lipo, the one- to two-player game, which is still in development, focuses on team-based action and strategy. The uncanny X-Men's wild range of characters, any of whom can be switched to on the fly, helps to create an RPG that casually resembles Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance but that enables players to use a team-style combo system to unleash extra powerful abilities. Activision has corralled experienced Marvel writers to pen the story, including Writer Joey Casey (Uncanny Xmen), Steven Seagle, Joe Kelly, and Duncan Rouleau.

Like traditional RPGs, players earn experience points after each level -- while the most active and successful character earns an extra bonus. Players engage in combat in a variety of totally destructible environments, such as various areas of the Mansion, as well as Department H, Muir Island, and the Danger Room, and collect items to build up the team's power.

When called on the phone yesterday, Activision was unable to provide any official details about this upcoming title for online sites. So instead, we suggest you buy a copy of March issue of Game Informer for an in-depth look. The issue shows everyone's favorite adamantium-laced superhero (Wolverine) on the cover and highlights a huge feature on both X-Men Legends and X2: Wolverine's Revenge.

We'll have more on X-Men Legends in the near future. Our thanks go to our friends in Minnesota for the first details on the game.

It's on all 3 systems. To be honest, I hope Activision knows what they're doing... I mean, this is their first RPG ever. They never made an RPG before. But wow, this sounds cool.

What do you guys think?

I truly hope this game isn't as bad as most other comic based
games.

Well, I think the game will be interesting, but I can't wait to get the new GI to read some more about it.

You got me thinking. It's probably not going to be a full fledged RPG... a stupid, braindead Hack and Slash game with leveling up.
