Peter Moore joins Microsoft!
Quote:
Microsoft Corp. today announced that Peter Moore, video game industry veteran and former president and chief operating officer of SEGA of America Inc., has joined Microsoft as corporate vice president of retail sales and marketing. In this newly created position, Moore will oversee retail business in the Home and Entertainment Division, including the Xbox video game console, Xbox and PC games from Microsoft Game Studios, and home software and hardware products sold at retail, in Europe and Japan.
Moore brings to Microsoft more than 20 years of global management, marketing and sales experience. At SEGA, Moore played a critical role in repositioning the SEGA brand and product suite to achieve a leadership position in the industry. Before serving as president and chief operating officer, Moore was the senior vice president of marketing and was responsible for the successful launch of the SEGA Dreamcast video game console. Before joining SEGA, Moore was with Reebok International Ltd., where he held senior management positions including vice president of global sports and senior vice president of Reebok Footwear.
In his new role as vice president of retail sales and marketing at Microsoft, Moore will report directly to Robbie Bach, senior vice president of the Home and Entertainment Division and chief Xbox officer.
“Peter has an outstanding track record of success in the consumer market and video game industries. In addition, we look forward to utilizing his deep knowledge of foreign markets to continue to grow our retail business in Europe and Japan,” Bach said. “In Europe, where we have made enormous progress, particularly with the Xbox business gaining the No. 2 position there, Peter will be working to maintain and accelerate that good standing. In Japan, we expect that he will contribute greatly to the work already being done there to advance the business.”
“I am excited to be joining Microsoft at a time when the company’s drive toward innovation and creativity is at the forefront of its retail and in-home strategy,” Moore said. “In particular, I look forward to applying my combined experience in global consumer sales and marketing and the interactive entertainment industry to enhance the global reach of the Xbox product line.”

Poor Peter. He is possessed by demons
How would you like to go from Sega to Microsoft? That's like going from President of the United States to scrubbing floors at McDonalds.
He has my prayers.

And how would you get a sega buyout after one guy switching jobs???
what was that one guy at Nintendo... Main or something. he switched to MS long ago. Obviously people get offered more money for what they do they'll switch.

Ken Lobb.
And I think people make the connection of Ken Lobb being hired by Microsoft to the Rare purchase. That's probably why people are making the Peter Moore and Sega connection. But I highly doubt it happening.

Wow... that's suprising. I did wonder where he would end up. Now I hope the Xbox doesn't take the same fate as Dreamcast since I've got this conspiracy against him. Doesn't anybody find it weird that the DC died some time after Petey came in to office?

This has nothing to do with sega. Moore retired/left due to low...everything...and went to MS for a higher offer.
Though his absense from sega may be worse for sega, as he probably supported the xbox (enough to join them anyway). Now a guy from Sega Japan will take his role, and he may see things differently, considering the region he is in.

Uh.... didn't anybody realize (GEKKO GEKKO GEKKO) what Moore did at Sega?
"He kids look at me botch a system home to Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, PSO, Sonic Adventure, Alien Front Online, the best goddamn sports games ever, etc etc. Advertising on TV!? Video Game companies do that?"
Moore was more lameduck than anything else, and I think Gekko's comment is utter trash. Hmm a company that's bleeding everywhere and isn't making any money even after they drop hardware or a giant giant that makes 2.5 billion IN A FISCAL QUARTER. Yeah dumb move.
That said maybe this is a sign of a Sega buyout by MS...

I hope you know that the person who is taking over Moore's position is the same guy that made the comment about a kiddy version of Virtua Fighter on the GameCube.

What does that have to do with anything? At least he has the interest to make a game for cube. And I never said it would be better for cube. More then likely it will help PS2.
