Default Gamecube is the next N64, and no Ikaruga for you!

New EGM rumors, which usually have a little more truth to them than say... IGN Boards rumors.

Quote:
GameCube to End Up Like N64
If you're a Nintendo fan, take heart: GameCube will still be the place to get your N-fix, at least for a bit longer. But the buzz around the industry indicates that many publishers with planned GameCube support in 2003 are systematically canceling titles on the square system, in favor of Xbox and PS2 versions. Why, you ask? Because GameCube owners are only buying the biggest titles, leaving the rest to languish on the shelves. (Before you complain, ask yourself how many GC titles you've bought that aren't published by Nintendo.) All this should sound familiar to most N-loyalists: A similar trend happened (although much faster than with GC) back in the Nintendo 64 days.... This comes on the heels of rumors (and that's all they are) that Nintendo will leave the hardware behind and reap the profits on its software for other platforms. Either way, just enjoy GC games while you can....
I am not totally shocked by this. You may say there are no good 3rd party games to buy, but Gamecube owners are spoiled by Nintendo's quality, and therefore very few 3rd party games ever become popular. Take away Nintendo, Sega, and Capcom. How many games really do well?

But that brings me to my next point, I spend a lot of times at the IGN Boards, mostly in the Xbox forum. That can give you a very accurate description of who's buying what. PS2 I can understand, but Xbox owners only buy the biggest titles as well. Is the only difference that their 3rd party exclusives, as opposed to 1st party?

Quote:
And, speaking of news for the hardest of of core, you can go ahead and buy the import now if you were waiting: Treasure's arcade-style, vertical-scrolling shooter Ikaruga is not coming to the United States (blame the unpopularity of third-party GC games and the shooter genre for that one).
Guess I'm going to have to import

Hmm... well at least the N-fans get what they want: good Nintendo games. That's all we want, isn't it??

I am not surprised. None of my GCN games are published by anyone other than Capcom (RE ad RE0) or Nintendo (SMS and MP). Even all the games that I plan on buying in the future will be published by either Nintendo, Capcom, Sega, or SquareSoft for FF:CC.

But, at least it's getting support by Capcom, Sega and Namco, something N64 didn't have.

No not my favorite twins!!!

Games would sell if they were any good.

BTW X-Box doesn't sell more copies of the same game I think...

A good game sells itself, a bad game doesn't. No matter what console... unless it's PS2, that can sell crappy games.

Yes, but as they said, Gamecube owners only buy the biggest titles. Sure good games sell themselves, but so should decent games. The problem with Gamecube owners, is they expect all of Nintendo's titles to be good, so instead of buying some average titles between now and March, they play Metroid Prime and wait for Zelda.

Like I said before, Gamecube owners are really picky because they've been spoiled by Nintendo. If a 3rd party game is REALLY good, it generally sells. Sega and Capcom make good examples. But if a game is average, it's generally passed up because there's another Nintendo game coming out soon, that they can be assured will kick ass.

This sounds exactly like me. Almost all the games I have either say Only on or are the biggest titles. I'm spoiled by N's quality and dont take too much heart to other games if they are coming to all 2 or 3 consoles since most publishers just take the PS2 version and just change the code to work on other consoles. But I highly doubt Nintendo is just going to throw in the towel and give up. They have stuck around through the biggest times and the lowest times. This isn't the lowest times. But with M$ thinking they can just take over the gaming industry and MONOPOLIZE it I doubt I will be moving anywhere else anytime soon. meh, say all the bashing you want Joeiss. I know your waiting to after reading what I just said

True. But I'll just wait to punish your fanboyish comments against MS with negative karma.
