Default IGN Star Fox Adventures review

Closing Comments-
Star Fox Adventures arrives as a truly excellent 3D action-adventure for GameCube owners. It's a clear Zelda rip, and not quite as good, but that's okay in my book as Rare has still done a pretty good job of it. There's lots of exploration to be had, character building elements, fun puzzles and not so fun puzzles, and some amazingly beautiful worlds to see and visit. Rare's technology is practically unparalleled.
Whether or not this needed to be a Star Fox game is debatable. The license seems to have been applied at the last hour and though there are a few interesting additions in this regard, the majority of the game deals with prehistoric happenings and magic. The flight missions come as more of an afterthought than anything else.

This is also one of the longest, more difficult games available for Nintendo's console, which is something of a relief for me and I'm sure for countless other players looking for something deeper than usual.

Highly recommended.

-- Matt Casamassina

Presentation-
Is this Dinosaur Planet or Star Fox? We're not exactly sure. 5.0

Graphics-
Outstanding. From model construction to texture detail, animation, world building and more, this game looks beautiful. Only a few marks in framerate and textures drop it down. 9.0

Sound-
Amazingly well done. Solidly composed music mixes with top voice acting, though it is a bit over the top. 9.0

Gameplay-
Zelda with a Fox. Some of the puzzles are challenging and satisfying and others are either too easy or too disorienting. A very long quest. 8.0

Lasting Appeal-
The quest is absolutely huge the first time through and there are some secrets worth checking out a second time, but this type of title by nature is best played once. 7.0

OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 9.0

i would post the whole review....but you know, i'm lazy, so meh. sounds good though, if i had money and time i would get it, but kingdom hearts has taken away both right now.

The game would have been a killer app... had they not tossed Star Fox in this game for no reason. Nintendo's great minds at work... destroying a great concept by Rare.

I guess Nintendo thinks noting can sell if it doesn't have an old Nintendo franchise face on it.

I agree, I thought that old main character from before looked cooler than Fox..but, like you said, Nintendo prolly thought they it would sell better with Fox in it

Where'd you get the version without starfox in it? I'd like to try it out too.

It was canned for n64. HUGE delay and addition of Star Fox... apparently it makes no sense to have the Fox as the main charicter... that's why it got a 5.0 in presentation.

its true though, the game will be a lot more recognizable with the name Star Fox Adventures instead of Dinosaur Planet. IGN said there really is nothing in the game that has to do with Star Fox besides some of the characters and a few Arwing levels. this is my theory, in exchange for allowing rare to use the zelda esque like battling nintendo made them use Star Fox in the game.

hehe, i know this. my point was you have no idea what the game woulda ended up like before. it coulda been exactly the same with differnent looking characters.

so far tho im really enjoying this game.

No sign of anything from starfox yet tho.

*continues playing*

I actually ecpected it to be lower. This was going to be a very big game originally, but the fuse burned out and they randomly selected a popular character to try resurrect it's success. Mission failed; as far as I'm concerned.

My brother will be getting the game for his birthday, which unfortunately is not until October 26th.

But when that day comes I will enjoy Rare's first and last game on the gamecube.

Does anyone else thnk that Nintendo put Starfox in this game so that they could make sure they retained the rights to it if Rare went Multi-Console or was bought by another comapany? After all, Rare was basically open to do so for over a year now...

definately not...

Nintendo owned the rights to this game 100% before this game...Rare would have had no chance of taking the rights to StarFox...if anything, they gave them a slight chance of stealing the rights by lending the franchise to them for this game...

and how does a game that gets 5.0 in presentation, 8.0 in gameplay, and 7.0 is lasting appeal receive a 9.0 overall? that's crap...cube.ign.com did that with SMS as well...

i think he meant nintendo put starfox in dinosaur planet so nintendo would have the game if rare went mulitplatform. nintendo taking dinosaur planet............. not rare taking starfox.

And IGN does that with all thier ratings. If you just look at thier over all score. they're usually not too bad. They tend to be sarcastic with thier other scores.......... thats why the overall is not an average and doesnt take the other scores into effect.

Only scores i trust anymore are EGM scores.

Hmm... this responce makes no sense to his question...

Before it was "Star Fox Adventures" it was just "Dinosaur Planet"

He's asking if we think Nintendo changed it to SFA so they can keep the rights to it instead of risking losing "Dinosaur Planet" to Xbox...

I'm pretty sure that they did do that... Nintendo had to be planning to sell Rare for a while now.

I agree... it averaged 7.25 and pulled off a 9.0
