Question Question: Why a D-Pad over a Control Stick for Fighting Games?

Why a d-pad over a control stick for fighting games? In the arcades you use a stick so why with console games is the control stick inadequate?

I seriously wouldn't know. I use the stick most of the times, but sometimes the D-pad is faster or something... dunno, I guess it's good for fast combos...

Yeah, what Angrist said. Sometimes the D-Pad is way better for combos. I don't know about the arcade thing. Make because you can grab the joy stick while on a controller you move it with your thumb.

In the arcade(as far as I know), the stick isn't as "analogy" as say the console sticks. It doesn't push as far, so it pushes more like if you pushed on a d pad. But if I ever do play fighting games(which I don't that often, not my fav.) I prefer the d pad. Its more quicker to move with(like others have said already).

Simple, it's easier to just press one of the 8 directions instead of moving (or Rollong) a stick to it. Just like in thps... the stick just makes movement horrid.

I only play fighting games at arcades, so I can't help you.

And yeah, THPS is horrible with the control stick. it just feels so... BLAH.

Heh... i like THPS 1 and 2 with a joystick and i was pretty good at those games well i think.. i havent played THPS1 for ages.. since grade 7 but i was pretty good.. 400 k I think was my best score in the school....... loved that level..

but.. uhh.. yeah fighting games are easier with a dpad unless your playing it an arcade cause you hold it different or.. soemthing.. i dunno.. its just easier to pull of long combos with a dpad than the joystick...

Combos is a good point, with a control stick its harder to get it to do exactly what you want it to do.

A joystick and a control stick are 2 different things. The joystick you use your hand, and hit it to the side, on a control stick, you use your thumb and it's just too slow.

But nothing can beat an experienced arcade player using his joystick. A d-pad is still slower.

Don't think so. Haven't seen one for Gamecube. Saw one for Xbox.

Dc still has the best one ever made.

Gamecube pelican arcade stick.

Quote:
Pelican is rising to the occasion with an Arcade stick for the upcoming fighting games! Featuring one analog stick, built in vibration and a bunch of buttons (some or all of which are analog), this stick could be just the thing for fighting fans. Strangely, the picture has Playstation-esque markings on the buttons...
The stick should be out at launch with a retail price of $19.99
