I actually never played the first one...I know, probably missed one of the greatest games of this generate, but it also had a lot of "jump scares" in it, which I really don't enjoy and actually stress me out a lot.
This one looks to have moved away from that a bit, so I may pick it up on Steam.

Yea im a pretty big Bioshock fan also. The first 2 are great. This one looks awesome. I'll probably wait a bit until it comes down in price, but its gonna be tough, so much I want to play right now.

Re: Bioshock Infinite
So I preordered because the Chinese Broomstick looks better than most concepts and the combat style is more close quarters. Anyone else play the minigame?
PC owners getting this? I think I'm going to buy some RAM, I'm running two sticks of G-Skill 2 gb each. They're shark food now. Biggest game of the year hype !!
I'm surprised at how violent this game is. The rest of the game is a pretty, almost cute depiction of a steampunk society. And they thought combining that with cutting off and smashing in heads was a good idea?
Where's the no-gore option in games these days anyway?

Re: Bioshock Infinite
I agree. Having a hyper-violence level as the static norm will keep high tier titles such as Bioshock in the realm of B-grade entertainment.
(Stallone action fodder, rap music(bitches&hoes), or even the relevant comparison of hockey to other sports leagues where a certain obtuse goonery is considered "lower entertainment."
I feel that a violence "no-option" or high, med, low would create a larger market demographic. ...considering that there are people out there who enjoy shooters but prefer to not see the flying intestines and blood fountains.
Also to be noted * I think games that allow for multiple paths of completion that include/exclude violence, are more balanced and whole. Probably an extension of the sandbox freedom potential as an ideal target in game design.
*haven't played Infinite yet
I'm definatley getting this, hopefully sooner than later but I just hate paying 60 bucks for a game. When it comes down to 39.99, im picking it up. PC version for me, its appears to be superior in every way.
I finished it this past Saturday. Fantastic game...I've already started a second playthrough, and I'm still thinking about the story daily. Took me around 11 hours to finish, but it was a high quality 11 hours.
As for the violence and gore, I've heard mixed opinions on this. Some people think it feels out of place and doesn't serve the game. I've even heard complaints from people saying it deters away an audience who would otherwise be interested in playing for the story.
But it also servers as a really dark, stark contrast with the idealic nature of Columbia. I don't think the game would work as well without it.
The first "violent" moment in the game comes out of nowhere. You're going through Columbia taking in the sights, listening to people, browsing around the fair. Suddenly you're thrust into this situation where they want you to throw a baseball at an interracial couple. Next thing you know a guy attacks you and hit him with the baseball and push his buddies face into his spinning blades. Blood everywhere. Until that point, Columbia was spotless, clean, and bright. It was pretty memorable.
