A) That commercial was pretty cool. I love the 'Kevin Butler' commercials. Especially the one for MLB with Mauer in it.
B) Some of those games actually looked really fun. Especially the rail shooter.

I'm sure the kids and adults in Nintendo commercials are, too.
Lawsuit reasons.
That way you can't say "Well they didn't do it on the commercial, and it flew out of my hand..so....their fault for not portraying it properly."

Why exactly are they patching old games to work with this thing? Seems like there's no money to be made there.
I saw this thing at PAX and was truly impressed by how much that little ball actually glows. I would imagine these would make great replacements to glow sticks.

Really, the only thing I could muster is that it looks good on paper. With stuff like Resident Evil, Heavy Rain and MAG. They could say, "Look we have over 40 games that support MOVE this year. More than similar products" While some games would improve with the MOVE, I don't think its wise for them to go back to games that sold decent, but weren't that well received anyhow unless they are trying to coax more people into playing it.. or once again.. selling to people who already own the console.
I guess the other thing is, it makes their "hardcore" gamers line-up look much better.

Yeah, but really there's no money to be lost there, either.
Why not patch it. That's why patches exist; to incorporate new technology onto old games, or to generally just improve [which is subjective, yes] the game.

Well, I guess in some ways.
At the same time, they do have to actually pay people to recode these games, and make sure the tech is working properly. Its not like they are patching a bug in a pre-existing game. They are adding (And in some cases radically changing) some form of input. There's calibration and testing and employees.
So if they do all this, and I would assume the patches are free, their best hope is that people go back and buy these older games to try out the Move control.

There's plenty of money to be lost. If it was free, less games would be left broken.
Programmers will need to be pulled off of their current project (which slows down that project) to go back and incorporate the technology. Move isn't free, so let's hope they can take the performance hit, or they will need to go perform some optimizations as well. They you need a testing team to ensure the features are working properly. You will also need to grab at least one artist and designer to help out as well. When it's all done, you get to send it through certification again.

HUSH!
But seriously, there's a lot of backpedaling/insulting going on with companies these days.
Microsoft apparently called their fanbase, a bunch of 30 year old living in their basement wearing Metallic T-shirts during a conference in Australia to better sell Kinect.
At the end of the day, all 3 companies just care about seeing your green.
