Wii and 3rd Parties
Its the weekend, and I'm bored (go go foot of snow).
If anyone follows the Editorial thread, would noticed posted an article from Eurogamer this weekend about Wii's 3rd party support. Some tidbits from that article were that the Wii has 54 3rd party million seller games (more than the PS3 according to the article) which I think is a lot more reasonable than some sites would have you believe.
So why then is it that so many 3rd party developers having a difficult time selling on the Wii? Well, I think part of it, can be exhibited in the pictures below, just to see what the major 3rd parties think of the Wii.
Activision
Ubisoft
THQ
Konami
EA
Namco-Bandai
Sega
Capcom
I'm sure a case could be made that crappy games are made for every console, but compare the ratio of games you wouldn't give a second look to those that you are truly interested in, and then look at the ones developers knew would never sell on the PS/360.
And I'm sure people will then claim that's what the Wii audience wants, if that was the case so many developers wouldn't have trouble selling stuff on the Wii.
I really don't know the purpose of the thread, other than to show the utter crap that MAJOR 3rd party developers put out, I'm afraid to see the stuff smaller ones do.
And just for comparison sake,
Nintendo

Re: Wii and 3rd Parties
This is just creepy... How many hours did you waste on this?
Anyway, I suppose the reason why so many crappy games are made for the Wii is because it has such a large audience. Also, I hate to say it, but being the family oriented console (whch I've argued and defended before) the demands of the masses are less constraining than the demands of more traditional console audience like the Xbox and PS3, so they can sell more crappy games for both of those reasons.

One, you are sadly mistaken if you think I would take the time to make those pictures, I came across those from another forum.
Two, as pointed out in my post, that's just the point, 3rd parties are having troubles selling games on the Wii... could it be that people don't want the stuff they are peddling.
And I guess all willing to get into.

Re: Wii and 3rd Parties
I remember a time when Nintendo fans complained about not having enough 3rd party support. Look at all those games!

I would like to introduce you to a concept known as Fan Dumb. Also, by following that link, you will instantly lose an hour of your life in pointless internet surfing. You have been warned.
OT: Do you still use a Mac? And do you have a goatee? These are very important questions to me. If you're confused why, ask TML.

That is the simplest of arguments and I know you are just being you, but there is a difference between getting no games and getting games of no merit/effort.
I mean in no way is Nintendo innocent in any of this, I didn't follow video games back then, but I heard they were horrible to work with during the NES/SNES days. The n64 days they created the ever charming, "Dream Team"
But here's where the problems started coming in, the Gamecube launched, and it had a ton of technical limitations (Smaller memory cards, fewer buttons), but 3rd parties and even gamers started talking about how only "kiddy" games sold on Nintendo consoles. Which I think is a bit flawed because Acclaim was able to keep Turok exclusive on the n64, Goldeneye is still beloved, Perfect Dark, WWE/WCW games and the likes.
And then the Wii came around, and there was talk that the only games that sell are casual games, ignoring the success of such things as RE 4, Red Steel, No More Heroes, Force Unleashed, Umbrella Chronicles, House of the Dead, etc etc.
And somewhere in between those two extremes, the notion that Nintendo consoles only sell games made by Nintendo, which is hard to disprove, I mean Nintendo has bar none the best (if not second best maybe Valve/Blizzard before them) track record in the industry.
