JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African police sting operation has bagged a murderer and the human head he was trying to sell for use in traditional medicine, police said on Thursday.

Police have in the past uncovered several so-called muti murders of people killed for body parts that some traditional healers believe are essential ingredients for certain kinds of medicine.

Police said the head belonged to a 52-year-old man whose headless corpse was found Monday in Krugersdorp. The head had been hacked off with a knife.

"A trap was set whereby a 23-year-old man was arrested who had attempted to sell the head for 10,000 rand ($980) for muti purposes," a police statement said. The arrest was made on Wednesday in Krugersdorp, a town west of Johannesburg.

The suspect will appear in court Friday to face a charge of murder. Police said they believed he had stabbed his victim several times before decapitating him.

That's just sick... Someone willing to take someone's life just for $1000. I wouldn't even be willing to do that for 1 billion.

Yeah, Im out of the STL. I'm not much for baseball however, sorry. I was always one of those hockey/basketball fans. don't get me wrong though, I do goto the occasional cardinals game, and I do try to keep up with things.

I know alot of people who say saint louis is boring. Its not depending on your lifestyle.

I've heard on several accounts that a decapitated head still sustains vision and hearing for about 15 minutes. So for all who thought King Henry and his wife Marie Antionette were dead, you were WRONG! (at least for 15 minutes).

I've heard that as well.. cept it's for chickens and it only lasts a few seconds.. never heard anything like that for humans though, anyone got a good source for this kinda weird information?

I could ask my teacher if I were still at college, but I'm not.

Anywho, it sounds reasonable. I mean, the brain can function on it's own. It just needs oxygen from the blood. So if it can survive for awhile without oxygen, I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.
