ARGH!

Listen, I think they have their place in games, but I think some games just abuse them way too much. I understand it allows for cinematic experiences while allowing the user to remain connected, but there is only right and wrong in most games. If you really want people to feel connected, give me options if I screw up.

Anyhow, I bring this up because I downloaded the Ninja Blade demo, and it is an impressive looking game but for the life of me, I think it is one of the biiggest offenders of the QTE abuse.

You literally start the demo doing about 10 of them in a row. Then you play through some combat which is decent but nothing special in my opinion. Then its off on a chase, followed by a shit ton more of QTE. Capped off with a boss fight that features QTE.

AFTER you defeat the boss in combat, you then perform like 10 more QTE to actually finish him off!

It is frustrating.

Yeah, they're getting overused. Even Turok was a little over the top.

I actually just finished Yakuza on PS2, and it was PERFECT. They only showed up during fights, especially boss fights. It definitely took Shenmue's legacy of excellent QTE.

You know what game doesn't have QTEs? Persona 4
You know what game's the greatest ever? Persona 4

Therefore QTE=/=greatness.

I never really played games with QTEs, but I've seen them a lot.

I think I prefer a sublte form of them, like in Zelda: TWW and TP. Where you can do an optional special attack if you're fast enough, but it doesn't break the gameplay.
