Onslaught, WiiWare FPS with 4 Player Co-op
Let's get this out of the way... the game is ugly. We are talking N64 ugly.
But as stated in the title it does offer 4 player co-op,
Now for reference, the game is about 40MB (I think that's the current limit on WiiWare games) so that would put it roughly on the level of an n64 cart. Which while it makes the game butt ugly means that it should have a fairly decent lenght campaign mode. I would imagine.
Quote:
Get ready for Onslaught; the first First Person Shooter ever for the WiiWare™ platform! With tight controls, a horde of enemies to blast away, and some of the most intense action you’ll ever find, Onslaught sets a new standard for FPS on Wii™.
In the distant future, contact with a distant research colony is lost and your team is sent in to find out what happened. Upon arrival, you’re attacked by overwhelming numbers of mysterious creatures. It’s up to you and your squad to eliminate the threat and discover the truth that lies deep inside the colony.
Being the first FPS on WiiWare, Onslaught gives shooter fans the action you’ve been waiting for. Taking advantage of the precise motion controls of the Wii Remote™, you’ll be in full command of your soldier as you tread through treacherous terrain. The action stays tight by aiming with the Wii Remote. You'll need steady hands if you're going to survive the horrors that await. When running low on ammo, give the Wii Remote a shake to get back in the game. When the odds get overwhelming, a supply of grenades will keep enemies at bay by throwing them using the Nunchuk™. Get set to play an FPS unlike any you’ve ever played before!
The enemies of Onslaught are no pushovers, which is why you may need to team up with a friend, or two, maybe even three! Get online and play in 4-person co-op to increase your chances of survival!

On a personal level, I hope the game is like 10 bucks, 15 is more realistic. Anything above that is just pushing it.

Looks like an average Wii game tbh.

REALLLY!
I know Wii games aren't the best looking but on average most of them look better than this.

Re: Onslaught, WiiWare FPS with 4 Player Co-op
Well Earl and I took the 10 dollar plunge into this little WiiWare title and we played for about a good hour or so. We only did online co-op which wasn't really co-op per se in the sense that you follow the story to the letter with cutscenes and such, but it does let you take on the story mode with some friends which is good enough for me on the Wii I suppose.
The graphics...could use some work, but they are pretty decent considering only about 40MB to work with, and it being a WiiWare title. Few games I know that are downloadable have more outstanding graphics than they're disc counterparts, so I say bravo to Hudson, especially considering the game is smooth as silk with no framerate drops.
The game plays decently control-wise. While the Wii was anticipated to be the FPS console, it hasn't really shone very well save for a few games that made amazing control schemes and customization options (Medal of Honor Heroes 2). There is no change to the default button layouts, and kinda spotty sensitivity adjustment (from letters D-A), but it works, and the controls feel nice. Press B to shoot, press C to prime a grenade and throw with the chuck, press Z to pull out a plasma whip that you swing with the chuck, shake the mote for a reload, and D-Pad for switching weapons, which from what I can guess you can gather new weaps and upgrades for your weapons from playing the story mode by yourself.
The game is pretty simple in it's implementation too. You're given conditions for victory, conditions for failure, a time limit, and a hell of a lot of baddies to gun down. You can go guns blazing with a shotgun to mow them all down, but be warned that getting too close and shooting your enemies will cause them to explode and spew bug juice on you, which cause a little wag of the chuck to wipe it away before the poison starts sucking at your life bar. You have to plan things out too, which sadly isn't as easy without a microphone, and I don't believe this game has Wii Speak support either, so get out your laptops/PCs and microphones because Skype seems to be the way to get things going. You don't want to end up like Earl and me, stuck in two completely different areas, trying to take down hordes of enemies by yourself.
I haven't played the arena deathmatch mode (or whatever it's called but I'm sure that's the other multiplayer aspect) but I can imagine it's pretty much more of the same and would require mastering the controls. All in all I can say it's worth the 10 bucks for a nice beat down. Your thoughts, Earl?

Re: Onslaught, WiiWare FPS with 4 Player Co-op
I actually enjoyed the game a lot more than I thought I would.
Granted right now the enemies comes in three shapes, bugs, flying bugs and shielded bugs, but it is a fun, fast paced arcade shooters.
Thus far each level has had a bit of variety in tons of both looks and objective. As Magus pointed out, it is possible to get swarmed by enemies especially when you take the wrong turn.
I did enjoy the one boss fight we had so far, and the plasma whip is a cool addition to the game. The game isn't pretty, but for 10 bucks I don't think you can go wrong.

Re: Onslaught, WiiWare FPS with 4 Player Co-op
I quite enjoy cheap, "crappy" games such as this. They're the stupidly fun ones usually.
The best time I've had playing an FPS was when me and Phil co-oped on Earth Defense 2017 (or something like that.)

Meant EDF 2017. One of the best budget titles ever.
