What should a 3D online Pokémon Wii game be like?
Lately I've been having that PKMN feeling again. It's really an amazing world. I loved the Blue/Red and Gold/Silver games, but I might have loved the series even more.
Nintendo are a bunch of retards. For not making a 3D online Pokémon game for the Wii. It will sell millions, even if it's crap. But it doesn't have to be crap! They have so much stuff to work with. They already have a nice balance between Pokémon, they have the attacks, the areas, the famous people... It's MMORPG material if I ever saw it.
But what do you think? What does a game like that need? Would it just be a 3D online version of the portable games? Or should they adapt the concept a bit?
I'll think about and share my thoughts in a while.

Re: What should a 3D online Pokémon Wii game be like?
Theres no way the Wii could handle an MMORPG, although it would be pretty cool.
Nintendo is like disney. They keep making crappy sequels until all the originality is ripped out and murdered. Disney is just better at doing it is all.
So the next pokemon game probably wont be that great.

Re: What should a 3D online Pokémon Wii game be like?
Nintendo, the company that tried to argue a few years back that online gaming isn't the way to go with console gaming?
Nintendo, the company that somehow comes up with the most progressive innovations but manages to be the least progressive company tackling a task like massive online gaming?
L O L.
A 3D Pokemon game has been on every Pokemon fan's list since the Red/Blue days. When people heard that Nintendo was releasing a 3D Pokemon game on the 64 people got excited.
And what did we get? Pokemon fucking Snap and Pokemon Stadium.
Talk about some weak-ass, gimmicky, Nintendo bullshit.
Nintendo could have gone 3D on the Cube. They didn't.
Nintendo needs to tackle a 3D Pokemon game before they do a massive online RPG. It would be cool though, wouldn't it. The Pokemon world is one of the most expansive and awesome things that gaming has yielded. I won't lie, Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow was some of the best gaming I ever played. Pokemon Gold/Silver were amazing too.
Since then my interest in Pokemon fell off. All the games are rehashes, or typical Nintendo sequels. I'm a diehard Nintendo fan, and even I won't bother finding time in my busy schedule to mess with the new Pokemon games.
I'll start caring when Nintendo goes 3D. Maybe. They should have jumped on that ship back in the Cube days.

Re: What should a 3D online Pokémon Wii game be like?
Anyway, what does Nintendo need to do.
3D. You start off in your hometown, you pick one of three Pokemon. And you begin your adventure.
I want to see a full 3D world with all the Pokemon, all the gym leaders. I want to be able to actually fly and surf and do all that crap. If Blizzard can accomplish this with WoW I think Nintendo can do this with Pokemon. How cool would it be to be flying over the Pokemon world, and to encounter a bird pokemon and get into a battle in the air. Also, 3D battles will allow more User-Enemy interaction. It would be really cool if you could control your pokemon's attacks or actually control them in a fight. How cool would it be to get into a fight in the water.....or to explore caves in the water. I always thought that the random cave battles in Pokemon were the most annoying things EVER. It would be cool to make the 3D transition so you actually can see the Zubats in the caves, or whatever.
Considering how kick ass Zelda is, or Mario...full, expansive, 3D worlds....it's a real shame that Nintendo hasn't taken Pokemon in the 3D direction. But why would they. People (new and old generations of Nintendo fans) continue to shell out cash for essentially the same game remade over and over on Nintendo's handhelds.
It would be awesome if Nintendo opened it up so you could join some public server and explore the world with other people. Battle your rivals, or group up with your friends and go explore new areas.
If Nintendo went and remade Red/Blue/Yellow in 3D, just with the original 151 Pokemon, I'd buy a Wii, a wireless router, and that game for my college dorm. I'm not even kidding.
Not to retread over my first awesome post in this thread criticizing Nintendo....but Nintendo's idea of progressive gaming with Pokemon is ADDING MORE POKEMON.
I mean seriously, how many Pokemon can you add before people stop caring....
Progression is not adding more Pokemon. Progressive is making the transition to 3D...like back in the N64/Cube days.
Oh well, it's fun to talk about hypothetical Pokemon games.
I used to be a fan, back in the day. I caught all 150 Pokemon, then went out and bought a gameshark so I could get mew. I remember the missingno exploit. Then I bought Gold/Silver and was blown away again. The addition of Night/Day, feeding, raising/hatching was totally progressive and added a lot of much needed depth. The fact that Gold/Silver also included the Red/Blue/Yellow world made it that much more the better. Those games sucked up hours of my time. I actually have been meaning to go back and replay Gold or Silver. One of these days...

Re: What should a 3D online Pokémon Wii game be like?
In 1996, Nintendo took their most popular franchise, Mario, and brought him into a fully 3D world. Super Mario 64, a game that is over a decade old, was in a word: P-E-R-F-E-C-T. The transformation from 2D to 3D was brilliant.
In 1998, Nintendo took another of of their most popular franchises, Zelda, and transformed it into a fully explorable, emmersive, and kick-ass 3D world. Ocarina of Time is a decade old, and it is PERFECT. There are no ifs. There are no ands. Nintendo achieved perfection. If there was ever a divine moment in gaming, Ocarina of Time defines that moment. Again, Nintendo accomplished a brilliant transformation from 2D to 3D.
In 2002, Nintendo took another incredibly popular franchise, Metroid, and brought it into the 3D realm. Without a doubt, Metroid Prime is easily one of the Cube's best titles. In hindsight, Metroid Prime is a better game than the Halo franchise. I say this as a jaded PC gamer. Metroid Prime was immersive, innovative, and in 3D.
These are 3 fine examples of Nintendo taking the leap form 2D to 3D and kicking ass. The above 3 games I listed are pretty much perfect, or as close to perfect as gaming gets.
In 1999 Nintendo gave us two big wet cock teases: Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium. It was Nintendo's way of saying, "Here, we will show you what Pokemon will look like rendered in 3D. Heck, we will even show you what a battle stadium will look like, and the Pokemon's habitable environment. But we won't actually deliver with a full 3D RPG."
And that is that. I'd like to think there is some good reason why the Nintendo developers haven't got strapping on a 3D Pokemon RPG. They are sort of stretching Zelda thin (Twilight Princess was okay, but definitely not as good as OoT, MM, or even WW). So what's up. My theory is money. My theory is Nintendo makes the big bucks keeping Pokemon handheld. My theory is that once Nintendo goes 3D people will realize that handheld Pokemon RPGs suck. People will realize that playing Pokemon on your handheld is so 10 years ago.
Anyway, just my 2 cents supported with some peculiar release dates and game choices by Nintendo.

Good point. I guess you're right, Nintendo aren't ready for a MMORPG. A 3D RPG with some online elements is a good start.

I disagree. The Wii could definately handle it in some form. Maybe not with the gorgeous graphics you see in PC games, but it should still be good enough.
Maybe it would have to stick with how it's done in Phantasy Star Online and Monster Hunter. A hub where you can meet other people, but entering the world is restricted to a max of 4 players. Should work.
(Then again, wouldn't it be cool when you're duelling somebody, you see others duelling beside you? And imagine watching some really good guys duke it out with legendary Pokémon...)
But this thread isn't about what's to be expected, but what's desired.
Keep 'em coming.

Re: What should a 3D online Pokémon Wii game be like?
I always wanted a 3D pokémon game would be just like gameboy version...
Walking, encountering wild, roaming pokémon... some NPC trainers to battle with, but also able to interact with other online players via mic. typing would just be less attractive IMO.
Also should be able to use the Wiimote freely; throwing the ball with the wiimote is just one of many possibilities. Maybe Choosing the pokémon you want to battle with, from the left/right side of the screen, or just play with one of your pokémon thats out of the ball... more you play with them, the more they grow to like you and... "fill in the blanks"
The map should be huge, to see higher levels of pokémon, you should just travel, maybe with a bike like the other games, which also could be interactive with the wiimote and nunchuck.
If I am able to come up with this idea, I'm sure there is someone working at Nintendo to do too... but if there isn't, I should copyright this sh*t.
