My friend lost a friend today
One of my friends has this dog. It died in euthanasia today.
Her dog is a doxie, and those kinds of dogs have weak backs from what I understand. A while back, he had injured his back somehow, and had to be put in a wheelchair. He eventually got better enough to go on without it. So things started to look up, I guess. Then on Friday, I spoke to my friend and she told me the dog had fallen down the stairs sometime last week, and has been vomiting a lot ever since. I haven't seen her online ever since, but I've been checking her LiveJournal every day to see if she might make any mention of her dog. Just about half an hour ago, I see her latest entry mentioning that her dog had been put to sleep. She and her parents decided that they can't have him going on for the rest of his life in a wheelchair, and in pain, and relying on medication.
I had made plans to visit this friend this summer, and I was due to fly over in two weeks. So I wonder how things will be. Even though I already paid for my plane ticket, I'm actually beginning to wonder if I should even bother going anymore. At least I don't have to pay for hotel stay and car rental until I get there. Anyway, I was also looking forward to seeing her dog again, as well as the four others she has.
I've been in kind of a funk myself about the speeding ticket I got on Saturday, so I guess this more or less puts things into perspective. I know my friend cherished every single solitary moment she spent with that dog. I know how special that dog was to her, and even I'm bummed that it's not around for her anymore. I've really been dreading this day, and I just know I'm going to have to be there for her.
Wish us luck, you guys. We're really going to need it.
