Default Boston Globe throwing darts for next gen.

Quote:
Sony Corp. should win the latest battle in its war with Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo of America Inc. for dominance in the video game console business, but that victory will come with plenty of bruises.

The report predicts that Sony's PlayStation 3 console will ultimately control a larger market share than Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's planned Wii, but that Sony will likely be forced to slash prices for the expensive system and will be faced with a slimmer lead over Microsoft than with previous game consoles.

By 2011, though, the Yankee Group report predicts that Sony will have sold 30 million PlayStation 3s, controlling 44 percent of the market, compared with an estimated 27 million Xbox 360 units, which would account for 40 percent of the market.

Nintendo is expected to stay in third place with 11 million Wiis sold, claiming 16 percent of the console buying market.

And what about the cool controller? Echoing what Microsoft’s hardware production manager Rob Walker said at Gamefest earlier this week, Goodman told us that he and others who have played with the Wii controller for an extended period of time got tired and fatigued. While Goodman feels that the Wii controller is an impressive engineering achievement, he feels that gamers will get frustrated and tired of having to move their arms while, say, swinging a bat while playing Wii sports or throwing a football in the Wii port of Madden
Wii players will get tired AND fatigued. Oh **** I can't handle both of them at once!!!

This means that the world will be changing as we know it. Which is why physical sports playing in the world is only a memory. No one likes to actually MOVE their body to have fun. The world would rather just move their thumbs.

Highschools will stop wrestling teams, and start thumb wrestling.

Football teams will be disbanned and create paper football flicking leagues.

Baseball teams will fall apart and people will only play marbles.

..............

And PS3 is certain to win.... after all, look how much better it looks that the cheaper Xbox360 that has been out a year longer!!

XBOX 360 VERSION

PS3 (or is it ps2) version

XBOX 360 VERSION

PS3 VERSION

That combined with bluray being outsold 4-1 by HDDVD, sony is certainly the clear winner.

it's just blurry... aren't early builds supposed to be jaggy, then clear? not blurry, then sharp. Here's to hoping they are ALL placeholder textures.

Yes, most obese, greasy, long haired, cheesie and chip eating, pop swilling, ass scratching, date-less wonders do seem to frequently play organized sports.

Man oh man. There are so many issues in this topic that I could debate, I think I'm just gonna pass.

The bottom line here, though, is why do we even care who the hell "wins" some stupid make-believe war? I don't hold any stock in any of these three companies, so I could give a sh*t which one is most successful. The state of video games is really getting quite ridiculous.

Because Bush hasnt announced the war on consoles yet.

That's Hilary's job, I guess.
But still.

Are you describing video game players? I'm willing to bet 90% of video game players do participate in sports outside.

competition is what makes it fun. It's just rooting for who you think is the 'home' team I guess.

you wanna see RABID useless fighting over what company is going to "win" ... try one of the bigger game boards. I mean, it's nothing but "look how much this console SUCKS" threads.

Yes, I will be content with xbox360 and wii, and I don't agree with blind hatred of a company, or complete bias for a system.

IE, i was at best buy, and the clerk basically told me that i wasted money on the xbox360, and the ps3 would be 4 times more powerful. (his roomate WORKS for sony, so he should know). (oh, works for SONY in colorado ...sure... sony outlet mall)

Anyways, if I'm buying merchendise from your store, dont disparage my system to further your own agenda of sony domination. that's just plain LAME.

True, if you dont like the price or games on ps3, don't buy one. If you think the WII is kiddy and would make you tired, don't get one. But don't spend your time bad mouthing other systems just because.

(reminds me of Focus on the Family protesting gays because they disagree with their lifestyle... if you don't wanna be gay, don't be gay... but don't spend millions of dollars on anti-gay literature and advertising, FOCUS!)

Well, Sony is already having bumps if you guys read my thread in the Sony forum about the blu-ray stuff. Regardless, who didn't expect this, Sony always has dominated.

I think I said this already, if I want to play baseball I'll go outside and get my real friends and play baseball. Or golf. Or whatever. The Wii is a cool idea, but people are either lazy or they're like me. Maybe in a generatin or two....

i can't golf when it's winter ... so... I think mario golf wii (it had better be a launch game, no chance) would rock.

Video games have never replaced real life, but allowed you to do things you couldn't normally do in real life: drive million dollar cars, shoot people on the street, sword fight with evil japanese...

Wii just brings a different way of interacting, that some can argue is more interactive than button pushing.

Sony isn't invincible, and sometimes popularity outweighs what common sense says should rule. The PSP is rediculously better than the DS, but the ds is outselling the psp like 8 to 1.

Sony beaten with:

betamax
micromv format
minidisk format
psp
not looking good for bluray

etc. People have put them so high on the video game pedistal, because of the lead they had last 2 generations, but I don't think it will last. They do make lots of mistakes...

AHEM no rumble... AHEM.

i can't see blu-ray falling victim to HD-DVD once they buff out the flaws

there's a lot of this "both medias have a place in the market" crap going around but in the end one format will rise, or people will just stick with regular DVDs.

i'm not disagreeing with you though, if there was ever a time to give a "o.O" look now is it. the other interesting thing to look at in terms of history is console success vs. price. seems like the super expensive consoles always lost to the competition.

this is the first generation where i'm far more concerned with the 3 console's flaws than high points. i won't buy anything at launch, if at all. i'm happy with my PC and Gamecube and Xbox and GBA.

Meh...I like the idea of moving around to play games...every now and then. Not regularly. If I want to make a football-throwing motion, I'll do it outside with an actual football. If I want to swing a golf club, I'll do so with a golf club. And if I'm tired...or drunk? Regular controller. But like I said, every now and then it would interest me and I would appreciate the new style of control.

No it's not. In Japan the ratio is more like 4 or 5 DSs sold for every 1 PSP, but in North America the numbers are still very similar. Worldwide, total sales of the two handhelds are not significantly different.

Yeah, **** that hour of fun you just had! You might as well write off the entire damn system because you're tired after an hour of one controller mode and too lazy to switch it in the options menu.
