Default City of Villians

I was just wondering how this game is when compared to City of Heroes. While I loved City of Heroes for its character creation system, much of the action seemed generic and tedious.

Are there any major gameplay changes in CoV, and how is the character creation when compared to CoH?

Problem... I still have to buy the damn game. Its not worth $50 if I'm not sure I'll like it.

EDIT: Never mind, I saw the link. Its downlaoding now, but it says I'm downloading CoH, which is odd.

Retail is $29.99 now actually for either hte Collectors Edition or the Regular.

CoH and CoV are 2 in 1. They both are connected but 2 seperate games in the process. Rather then have 2 seperate updaters, just the one and whne you login, if you have both games, you choose a Hero or a Villain. But if you have just a Villain, only get to choose Villains.

Also, if you own both games, you get access to 12 character slots instead of the default 8 and after Issue 7 hits, you can use the villain costumes in CoH and the hero costume options in CoV if you have both games. So you can weigh if its worth buying both or not after trying the trial

I've been playing a little, and I have to say that CoV is an improvement. The world seems more lively and the main story pulls you in from the beginning.

I'm a little dissappointed by the character options/powers, though. Aside from Mastermind, they all seem just like CoH. This is just after a few hours play and one character, though, so I haven't explored the options all that deeply as yet.

The contact system in CoV was given a mini-overhaul. Dont have to wait as long to call a contact now, missions are more in your zone. Bases have teleporters so you can get to any current CoV zone without having to rely on running to ferry or whatever.

Alot of the CoV sets are a mixture of CoH sets. But the differences make it alot different. Corruptors do look like blasters with debuffs/buffs on paper but in action, its the same but its completely different then playing just a Blaster.

And you signed up at hte right time. Make sure you have Test installed/ready because supposedly Issue 7 is coming out next week and you can try out the Mayhem missions. Basically just go into a mission and destroy anything around you (or within range of what the game allows). Kinda like the current Bank missions from brokers but Mayhem missions are supposed to make you feel like a true villain. Along with all the other stuff for the post 40 game i doubt you'll get a chance to try in a 2 week span

I would like to thank jonbo as I took advantage of this trial as well and for some odd reason enjoying it a bit more than CoH.

Granted my villian kind of shares the same power as my original hero but its just something special.

Even joined a super group. Think we got a base somewhere.

Its new and "fresh" compared to CoH. Some of the nitpicks of CoH were changed in CoV (mainly how long you wait to get a contact's cell number) among other things so it feels better overall.

Well I have several characters going and I have to say I'm loving this game. CoV handles team gameplay better than in CoH and much better than WoW.

My hang-up with MMORPGs so far has been teaming up with other people. WoW does this decently but it is not for the casual player. WoW dungeons can last HOURS opposed to CoV dungeons that last less than one hour on average, at least in the beginning (my highest character is a lvl 9 mastermind right now).

This is why I think I eventually abandoned WoW. I could get my character up to lvl 30 in that game going basically solo, but once I was forced to try and find team members and wait in queues, the game lost its fun factor.

CoV is great in that its structured so that the more in a team the merrier. I get invites to team on a constant basis and sharing missions is automated. Its just better streamlined.

Now I just need to upgrade my PC. Even on lower graphical settings I start to chug when the action starts getting crazy.

Yeah, CoV is more graphic heavy then CoH.

Dont accept all blind invites if your soloing Some are very bad teams.

CoV has a good balance of teaming and soling. You can solo the entire way (though boring due to newspapers repetition) or team all the time and do better.

Whats your global handle/name by the way?

I believe my global handle is Dr. Argus Jung. He was my first character. I believe he's a lvl 5 mental/psche controller right now.

I love scrambling brains. I pretend I'm Michael Ironside in Scanners
