Thank you, Oblivion
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has done something to me that no game has done since maybe Halo 2.
I am atwitter with excitement.
I'm beginning to feel the same rush and anticipation that I first felt when the mad dash to the prrevious generation's consoles had the internet buzzing. The game looks stunning, the gameplay looks great and the previews and reviews have been nothing short of stellar.
I yearn for this game. I feel as if there is nothing that will stop me from finding a way to own and play this game. And these are feelings that I think have been sorely missed in videogaming for a long time.
This makes me wonder why? Why have e become so cynical in our view of video games? Why does nothing seem to excite and tittlilate us anymore? Is it because we've become jaded with the sea of mediocre games that drown the occassional masterpiece? Is it that our traditional childhood favorites seem to be overwhelmed by shoot-em-ups to the point that the magic of the media has dwindled?
Or are we just getting older?

Re: Thank you, Oblivion
Well, the people who played video games before Playstation brand hit the market, it was more about Gameplay first, then Graphics because all games looked nearly the same..just 2D with ugly 3D games. So instead of ugly 3D games, they made great 2D games.
Then 3D became more used and the focus started changing to more "Great graphics, ok/meh gameplay" but continued to sell because people went "OMFGLOLGRAPHICS" and then realized it wasnt a fun game.
We're still in that moment. Either a game has great gameplay and decent/meh graphics or great graphics and decent/meh gameplay. or yourj ust going around killing things.
Then we have the rarity of "Great gameplay, great graphics" like Oblivion that smack other developers and tell them "This is how you make a game". They try to copy it, realize they cant because they dont want to take the time to and go back to what I said in the last paragraph.

Re: Thank you, Oblivion
Before PlayStation brand hit the market....?
3d became more used because with time came the improvement in technology which paved the way for better graphics. In the end the graphics consumed everyone and nearly no one paid attention to game play.
But who decided that games were more about gameplay before PS1? First of all it's the developers you need to be pointing you fingers at. The Playstation only opened up new doors to new technology.

Re: Thank you, Oblivion
3D was used before PS1, it just didnt catch on mainstream'y until PS1 came along. I know improvements in tech brought 3D to be able to look at better then solid blocks.
I only said Gameplay was more important before 3D hit mass market because 2D was just..2D. You could make 2D prettier but it stayed just 2D. 3D you can do more to make it prettier I guess.
Its hard to explain via typing it out but hopefully you get the point.

Re: Thank you, Oblivion
I think it's the childhood favorites combined with getting older. Nothing can ever top the fun and memories you had with childhood games.
