Those using Limewire...
I hope you realize you are severely damaging your computer with massive Spyware/Adware? If you are aware and you're cool w/ it... thats fine, if not .. then you have a problem.
You can tell yourself
"I have Limewire installed but I have Spyware tools that remove spyware"
then you can realize
"Limewire keeps installing keyloggers/spyware/adware each time you run it through it's several contracted ad agencies."
SOLUTION:
Get LimeWire Pro (the program is clean of ANYTHING spyware/adware when it is purchased).
You can also try Shareaza or KCEasy or ABC but those networks are garbage.... and you'll find next to nothing on them. Sure Limewire/Kazaa/BearShare bring you results and often give you 90% successful downloads... but your slowing your computer down significantly and your not doing anything but running spyware tools everytime you run it.... it's using valuable resources.
Get rid of it or buy it...
Heres a helpful list of hacked p2p programs and clean p2p programs:
Quote:
The following file-swappers are confirmed to have spyware or other unwanted parasites bundled into them:
* Audiogalaxy
* Imesh
* OneMX
* FreeWire
* Exeem
* BitTorrent Ultra
* FileCroc
* Kiwi Alpha
* RockItNet
* Warez P2P
* KaZaa (offers a paid version without spyware)
* Bearshare (offers a paid version without spyware)
* Xolox (Currently retesting)
* Morpheus (Older versions only. All third party bundles have been removed from Morpheus as of version 4.9.2. Current versions have an embedded banner ad but install no third party software)
* Grokster (offers a paid version without spyware)
* Blubster 2.x aka Piolet (Blubster 2.0 and higher and Piolet are adware and bundle other adware)
* MediaSeek (MediaSeek Lite from the same company does not bundle any spyware or adware)
* E-Donkey AKA Overnet (Versions prior to 1.2 available on June 1, '05 bundle adware. 1.2 is clean)
* Computwin AKA FileNavigator (While it doesn't bundle adware or spyware, this product is itself adware, pops up a full page ad in Internet Explorer upon loading and claims to track computer usage in its license)
* Ares (Official site offers a "Lite" version without the adware bundles)
* Various BitTorrent Clients (See warning below about open source clients)
* Limewire (The most current version of Limewire is reported to include spyware. LimeWire 4.9.28 is clean. Older and newer version may not be.)
The following file-swappers have been found not to have any spyware or other advertising parasites bundled into them:
* Shareaza
* E-Mule
* Gnucleus
* Soulseek
* Direct Connect
* Mute
* ABC Bittorrent Client
* DC++
* KCEasy
* Azureus
* BitComet
* BitTornado
* WinMX (The WinMX network has been shut down, although the program is still available)
* giFT
* Phex
* Torrent Search
* TorrentStorm
* Qnext
* BitSpirit
* Waste
* EarthStation5
* Burst! BitTorrent Client
* AudioGnome
* CQ_EX
* Filetopia
* mldonkey
* Morpheus(All third party bundles have been removed from Morpheus as of version 4.9.2. Current versions have an embedded banner ad but install no third party software)
* MediaSeek Lite (Another program, MediaSeek, by the same company does bundle adware)
* Ares Lite (Ares Lite is clean. Ares from the same company is not)
* BadBlue (No spyware, but requires a registration including name and email address. Not recommended)
* TrustyFiles (Does install a "casino" bookmark on the desktop.)
* Blubster 1.2.3 (Later versions include adware)
* BitTorrent (See warning below about open source clients)
* E-Donkey AKA Overnet (Versions prior to 1.2 available on June 1, '05 bundle adware. 1.2 is clean)
* Zultrax (No spyware. No uninstaller either)

Re: Those using Limewire...
The easiest way of getting Limewire Pro is the ironic way, using another file sharing program.
For added irony, use Limewire.
The safest way is Bittorrent though.

Re: Those using Limewire...
Between bittorrent and dc++ you can get anything you need quick and easily. And only need to use dc++ for the really rare stuff.

Re: Those using Limewire...
the thing is, I use Limewire, and usually scan my computer every day or two for spyware/adware/viruses and it never detects any.
but I also use ABC, and it works great.

That is a very ignorant way of thinking, considering if you install Limewire you basically give them the go ahead to install the third-party software giving it a license and therefore making them undetectable. Thats what makes it 'clean' to everyone.

Re: Those using Limewire...
If I noticed a trend where Ad-Aware or Spybot was picking up the same things (program related, like exe files or whatever else non-cookie) over and over, I'd get suspicious but I never have an issue like this. If I had limewire and read this, I'd get rid of it if I noticed a pattern.

Well until it crashes my computer, corrupts any of my files, or anything fatal, I'm fine with it. It's but a small price to pay for what I've gotten off of it.
Rinse and repeat.

Re: Those using Limewire...
I've actually been able to find some obscure stuff on limewire. Music is the worst. Unless you have and are willing to maintain an Oink account (it's pretty hard when you share a conneciton and have an upload cap), Limewire and Soul Seek are great for finding obscure music.
