Re: The Producers
While I did enjoy it, I felt it was no where near as good as either the first one or the musical. While most of the actors and the choreography was the same from stage to screen, what made an amazing play didn't translate so well onto the screen.
The chemistry in the original was incredible. As much as I like Matthew Broderick, he is no Gene Wilder. The combination of Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel was amazing. At times, it seemed Broderick was directed to be like Gene Wilder rather than an appropriate Bloom.
Likewise, much of the Jewish ethic jokes and innuendo that made the first so amusing (Mostel, Wilder, and Brooks are all quite Jewish) was missing from the film, which took away much of the irony and humor.
This is not to say that I did not thoroughly enjoy film, and indeed I recommend the new film, the original, and the Broadway production quite heartily.
