No XBox games

Before anyone acuses me of being happy about this, I'm NOT. I want to see the system do well in Japan (I already know it's doing great in NA) so that maybe more Japenese developers will support it over time, which would then warrant a purchase from me (when I get the money)

Anyways, use this topic to just look over the top 50 sellers in Japan or comment on the lack of XBox titles...

Most of the article I'm quoting here is opinions, anecdotes and analyst quotes. But there are some solid numbers as well which is what I quote below.

Since the Xbox's release on Feb. 22, Microsoft has sold about 165,000 units, falling one third short of its goal to sell out of its 250,000 initial shipment by now, Media Create Co., a Japanese research company, said. The sales figures are based on a nationwide survey of retailers and video-rental stores.

Microsoft's attempt to topple Sony in Japan was hampered after the company was forced to repair or replace defective versions of the Xbox when customers complained the machine damaged some game disks. Xbox is part of Microsoft's attempt to extend its dominance of computer operating systems to the livingroom where consumer-electronics makers like Sony hold sway.

``Investors already think Xbox is irrelevant in the Japanese market,'' said Makoto Suzuki, who helps manage $1.1 billion in Japanese equities at Chuo Mitsui Asset Management Co. ``Sony is now the maker of choice among owners of home-use game consoles.''

Microsoft continues to lose ground. In the week ended Sunday, it sold a little more than 4,300 Xboxes in Japan, while Sony's PlayStation 2 sales topped 100,000 and Nintendo's GameCube sales reached almost 25,000, Media Create said.

I'm not sure who these Media Create people are, but their numbers don't surprise me. I'll be more sure when IGN Japan updates with Famitsu's numbers. I can also add that sales of Xbox software total 0.5% of total software sales. We all knew it would be a tough sell, but believe it or not, Xbox is doing better than I thought it would.

By the way, this has to be the funniest mangling of Super Smash Bros. name I've seen yet.

True. But I think that the point of the chart is to tell that Xbox is doing badly, beause it has no games in the top 50.

Well, I think Justin brings up a valid point that Xbox's user base in Japan is the smallest and that the Xbox has been there for not nearly as long as both the GameCube and Playstation 2. But there are also other reasons the Xbox isn't selling so well in Japan right now.

First of all we all know that the Japanese hate American products. I know that may sound like a bad excuse, but it's the truth. Also Microsoft currently has under development around 50 Japanese exclusive titles for the Xbox console. Right now really the only game geared toward the Japanese market is Dead or Alive 3.

So I would wait until Microsoft does release some of those Japan exclusive titles and see how they do. Remember that the Xbox could have games in the 50-60 range which wouldn't be that bad.

If MS wants the Xbox to do well all they have to is get companies do to sate slims and the Xbox will sell millions over there.
