Fable

We were promised the world. What we got was about 3 city blocks worth, what everyone seems to forget is that they weren't in Compton.

Yes, it may be one of the most over-hyped games of all time. Many of the promised features were taken out, despite the fact that the game was delayed several times and the lost chapters probably should have been a patch.

...The thing is, what they left in, was great. The combat was fun, character building was a blast, sure it wasn't the first game to use the evil/good dynamic but it did a good job of it. The graphics and sound were outstanding, and the world did evolve around you. The world was a little too small, and the game was a little too short, but I enjoyed every minute of it. It never quite had the charm of an Ocarina of Time, but the rest of the game felt like OoT and that’s hardly a bad thing.

I loved every minute I spent playing Fable, and I think it’s a shame that it’s going to be remembered more for what it wasn’t than for what it was. Fable is a great game that deserves to be considered one of the best of a generation and I hope if you’ve never played it you consider going back and dropping $20 on it and giving it a spin.

I had fun with this one as well. Haven't tried the lost chapters.....anyone know if old game saves are compatible with it?

I kind of almost bought The Lost Chapters when it came out for PC...
But that was as close as I came to that game...

True story...

I have the Lost Chapters, but I haven't played it much yet. I've only gone through training... There were actually a couple of new things in there that I certainly wasn't expecting, but nothing major.

Anyway, I agree that Fable is a great game even without the other stuff, but I don't think its anywhere near one of the top ten for this entire generation.

I think Fable deserves to be on this list because it, more than any other game I can recall, pushed through the idea of having complete control of your character and allowing his actions to significantly alter even the smallest aspects of the game world. Now of course Molyneux and the Carter Brothers didnt accomplish this feat, but they made a few steps toward it.
I HOPE Fable helped usher in a new breed of games....or at least made developers consider adding in a bit of cause-and-effect in their titles.

Morrowind came first and a lot closer to that goal than Fable did.

I honestly enjoyed Fable more than Morrowind. Both were excellent games.

Fable was a huge letdown for me. I followed the game since its inception (back when it was referred to as Project-Ego) and I even conducted the first interview with Big Blue Box about the game. As it came closer and closer to release the features became smaller and smaller. In the end Fable was a good game, but nowhere near what it was promised to be. Perhaps if Molyneux didn't hype it up so much it would have been better received. It would have a possibility of cracking my top ten, but Knights of the Old Republic I and II would be before it.

I hear ya. I didn't follow Fable, but I followed Halo 2. And I felt raped when they released the game.

Hype = huge let downs.
