Sound Card
I'm looking for a really good sound card to record my own music with.
I'm a novice when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I need some help. What I want it to be able to do is to be able to hook an electric guitar, mic, electric drumset, etc, etc, and for the sound card to be able to record the music and put it on the computer directly.
For example, lets say I have my electric guitar hooked up to the sound card, and I play a chord or an entire song. I would like for the card to read that, and ONLY that, meaning that it doesn't pick up any background noises.
I'm not sure what kind of ports the sound card needs to have to be able to do this.
I'm willing to pay around 200 dollars or less for a decent sound card. If anyone knows anything about what I'm looking for the help would be appreciated. And while you're at it does anyone know of any good music editing software? Nothing too professional...I don't want to spend months learning to use it, I just want something simple that gets the job done.

Re: Sound Card
uhh, well i'm not sure if you will be able to buy a sound card to do all that for less than $200...but you could try getting a Sound Blaster audigy 2 ZS, i just got one from Happydudette when i came to aussie, and i like it! i haven't explored all the features yet though, so i can't tell you much about it other than it has support for a whole bunch of sound stuff, and a whole bunch of ports. (like 6-7)

Re: Sound Card
Thanks, I'll check that out.
And yeah, you can get one that does all that for about 200 dollars, because I have found several of them, I just don't know what's good.

Re: Sound Card
Sound Blaster is a good brand. Make sure you get the one with the box you can put in front of computer in one of the cdrom "bays" for alot more freedom to hookup things like guitar in your case

Re: Sound Card
Actually, I found the sound card Jonbo is talking about at Circuit City yesterday, and it's 200 dollars.
My friend who wants it (he's the musician, I'm just the computer guy) and I decided not to get it thought, because it seems like overkill. It's a top of the line sound card built for gaming.
We found a few at http://www.musiciansfriend.com that we liked, though, and they are built specifically for recording. The one we are considering right now is about 130 dollars, and it has the 1/4 inputs we need to hook up the instruments, and some other ports to hook up things like the mics and PA system.
