45 Dead and 200 Hurt in Egyptian Blasts
Quote:
CAIRO, Egypt - A series of explosions, including four car bombs, struck luxury hotels in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik early Saturday, killing at least 45 people, witnesses and police said.
Saturday's explosions — the deadliest attack in Egypt in nearly a decade — shook windows more than five miles away. Smoke and fire rose from Naama Bay, a main strip of beach hotels in the desert city at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, which is also popular with European and Israeli tourists, witnesses said.
Dazed tourists milled about the darkened streets as Egyptian rescuers searched for dead and injured and ambulances sped away with victims.
"There seemed to be a lot of bodies strewn across the road" near one cafe, British policeman Chris Reynolds, visiting from Birmingham, England, told the BBC by telephone. "It was horrendous."

Well... at least the House voted to reauthorize the Patriot Act.

Maybe this will finally convince the world that terrorism is not an American problem or even just a Western problem. Terrorism is a world problem and until the civilized world as a whole decides to confront it instead of appeasing it, we will be forced to watch more and more of these cowardly acts of senseless violence.

This post says more about my problems with the left when it comes to terrorism than I could EVER write in a single post.

Re: 45 Dead and 200 Hurt in Egyptian Blasts
Starting yesterday because of these such bombings the NYPD began random bag checking on subway platforms which I think is the stupidest thing ever...especially since you can say no when they ask you and there's nothing they can do. Plus if they do check your bag and find 5 lbs of crack it would be thrown out at court because that's not what they were looking for. So would a bomber really agree to have his bag checked? And because its random, the police would treat a shifty looking guy wearing a trenchcoat with wires sticking out of it the same as an elderly woman eating an ice cream sandwich with her granddaughter. America hasn't a clue how to prevent such bombings.

Oh horsecrap. They blew up a western resort. Most of the casualties were British and Dutch, the Arab casualties were mostly Kuwaiti and Quatrain which is basically saying they were westerners as Kuwaitis and Quatrains are Arab-Lite. They spend, act and behave like westerners because they have the resources to do so. This was a statement to middle eastern nations that have supported Western causes. Saudi Arabia will probably be next.

I sorry, I didn't realize that Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Quatrains were western nations. Oh thats right, they're not. They're Arab countries that are forward thinking enough to realize that getting their nations out of the medeival age is a smart thing. The "Western causes" that you mention aren't necessarily supporting western military or economic endevours. They also include the education and rights of women and democracy in general.
Regardless of whether or not a resort area was bombed, thats still Egypt that was attacked. A muslim nation. It wasn't Great Britain or America. Its another example of the fanatical belief structure and all or nothing menatlity of the radical muslim terrorist organizations. The world has to come to the realization that appeasing and coddling these murderers will not stop the violence, it will only encourage more of the same. Their goal is not to be left alone, which is virtually impossible in our modern age of instant global information, but to make everyone like them.
Until everyone comes to this obvious conclusion, we will have to tolerate actions like this for the forseeable future.

This is terrible. Hopefully the world can figure out a way to stop all this madness.

I'm not saying those things are bad, and believe it or not I (Yes, little old liberal me) actually happen to believe that the conservative beliefs (rights of women, or lack thereof, education in general, the literal eye for an eye justice system, theocracy in general) held by many Muslims are, in fact, completely backwards and far inferior to western traditions. What you fail to grasp, here, is that, though they are forward thinking, they're still rooted in western thought and philosophy and no matter what you or they say or do, they're going to be viewed by the terrorists in the same light as the truly western nations.

I think you're definition of western thought and philosohy is pretty myopic. Democracy and human rights aren't strictly Western values, and they have been adopted by many other Eastern nations without inspiring such blood lust.
And even if they are steeped in Western philosophy, does that excuse the terrorist act, or separate the fact that muslim terrorists are as apt to attack modern muslim nations as they are modern christian nations? No, it doesn't.
What shocks me most is the seeming slack that you give these terrorists because the nations they attacked are viewed as being "Westernized" in your eyes. And before you accuse me of putting words in your mouth, re-read your first response to my comments.

You would almost think from reading that passage that the attack was acceptable because the muslim nation in question are "Arab-lite".
