Saw it. The oompa loompa songs were great.
Those two hours went by really fast.
Tim Burton is the man.

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
I should see this tonight then. I've been thinking about it just because of Johnny Depp playing such an odd role for a man like him and the fact well...its just odd looking all around
Oh..and I was in mall the other day and at Hot Topic (friend was bored ) and they had the Wonka coat used in the movie so I was contemplating getting that ($60 though!), finding the Wonka hat used in the movie and goggles worn and scare everyone at work

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
I've got mixed opinions about the movie....i think they screwed willy wonka's character up...a lot. The original willy wonka was so much cooler, he was childish and everything, but you could tell he was "the" man....he pwned. In the new version he's just as dumb and confused as any of the kids. Thats pretty much my only complaint, otherwise, i thought it was great.
Soundwise, the movie is a masterpiece, absolutely brilliant, very much in tim burton's unique style. The Oomp Loompa's kicked seriously liberal amounts of ass, although they kind of reminded me of the clone army from Star Wars. All the songs were very well made, although some of the lyrics were hard to hear. But then again nothing can beat "Oompa, Loompa, Dupity doo"....that was just classic.
The special effects were fairly nice, although the colours could well give you seizures, and I've heard other friends that have seen it high and they agree whole heartedly w/ you Joeiss.
And yeah....thats my thoughts

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
I kind of agree with the Wonka's character thing. Depp portrayed him as an alien or something. I found that kind of weird, but I still thought it was funny.

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
it had a lot of good visual elements, but a lot of random stuff thrown in seems like an afterthought. like the whipped cream. nothing else was like that, it was by itself. Charlie ended up being too perfect, which bugged me. no faults makes his character boring.
willie wonka seemed like someone who couldn't have gotten that much of a fortune, because he acted like an idiot, who knew nothing. in the original, he was very very clever...
they violet CG works really sucked and bothered me a lot.
not enough mystery in the factory, didn't make it seem like everything was edible like the original movie. and wonka didn't seem like he valued his factory, it just seemed like he was there.
I like Tim Burton, but I didn't like this movie.

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
The Oompa Loompas made this movie. The combined talents of Danny Elfman and Deep Roy (my new favorite actor) were great. Now I can't stop listening to the soundtrack. As for Wonka I kinda prefer Gene Wilder's portrayal. The Jackson tendencies of this one kinda put me off but Depp wasn't really bad...just dramatically different.

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
I haven't seen this movie yet, but I have serious doubts about Depp's portrayal of Wonka. Gene Wilder's portrayal was not that of a child, but that of an idealist (some would say that is a child's best and worst trait). he was a man who had a very specific view of the world and the world he wanted to create.
Depp, on the other hand, dipped back into is celebrity bag and decided to immitate yet another quirky real life character. In Pirates he based his character on the Rolling Stones guitarrist (his name shockingly escapes me) and for Wonka he immitated Michael Jackson. This is an interesting choice, but I prefer the character of a man who holds on the childhood ideals, rather that that of a man who thinks he is a child.
Also, if this line is not in the re-make, I'll have SERIOUS problems with Burton.
"You get NOTHING. You LOSE. Good DAY to you!"... "I said GOOD DAY!"

Re: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory
Its not in the movie.
***SPOILERS****
In this movie, Charlie is not initially denied the factory. Nor does it have the flying/burping scene.
