Re: GameInformer: Top Sales Charts
That's from the March 2005 issue of Game Informer. I can honestly say that RE4 probably didn't sell that much here, considering how many households have a GCN in North America.
And considering RE4 only launched on the Gamecube, I don't see many sales for it. However GameInformer has it at #1 for overall game, not sales.
Considering the ratio of Playstation 2's to Gamecube's is 5 to 1 I'd say if RE4 launched on the PS2, the sales would've been higher, and only because theres more PS2 owners out there that would buy it. Myself included, considering all my RE's were on PS consoles. RE4 was an awesome game, and they did a good job on GCN, but even I didn't go out and get a Gamecube just for the game. So in essence, the key factor in sales were how many GC owners out there were Survival Horror fans. A lot of my friends who own GC's aren't RE fans. I'd say the graphics would probably be a little choppier on the PS2 but looking at Ps2 owners in NA, I'd say they would make more sales with the PS2 port.
You can tell because Nintendo sells a lot more GBA/DS games in Japan and NA then GCN games believe it or not. The charts show only a few GCN games up there whilst the list is encumbered by their GBA games.
Sales Reports for a game consists of Popularity, and Compatibility. If it launched on the PS2, more PS2 owners would've hopped on and bought it making it a best seller. But theres just not enough GCN owners in NA.
Consider 80,000,000 Ps2 owners and maybe 20% of those are RE fans?
I forget the number of GCN Owners, but I know it's lower then Xbox.
Until the Revolution comes out, Nintendo has to hold their ground with the DS and the new Gameboy.
