Lightbulb Idea for a "Specail Limited 20th Anniversary Edition" NES...

I know this belongs in the "Ol' Skool" forum, and it's already there, but I'm, putting it in here as well so more people will see it, I hope Neo doesn't mind, but if he does, than either he or Xantar can close it. I hope you don't consider this advertising Xantar, because it's not really making money for anyone except Nintendo if they listen to the idea. Here it goes:

It may only be 2002 right now, but in 2005 the NES will celebrate a Nintendo Milestone... It will be the 20th anniversary of the release of the Original 8-bit NES!

In honor of this amazing system that revived the gaming industry, I think Nintendo should acknowledge the NES, and NES gamers should do the same.

How you ask? I'll tell you.

All fans of the original 8-bit NES should not just Send an E-mail petition, not just send a personal E-mail to Nintendo, not just sign an online petition form, not just write a snail mail letter, and not just sign a snail mail petition, but should instead do ALL of the above requesting the Idea I just thought up and will mention below.

According to an address book I have there are 2 things you give for a 20th anniversary, the classic is China, obviously no one would want a China NES, and the other gift is platinum, which is a precious metal that looks like Silver.

Here's my idea:

Re-release the NES but in a special way. This "Special way" would consist of a "20th Anniversary Platinum Edition NES", only available during 2005 for the NES's 20th Anniversary, and a Top 20 Best-Selling NES games with the name "NES 20th Anniversary Platinum Edition". The games would be the exact same version of the original NES game, except they would have a "20th Anniversary" seal on them along with the regular "Nintendo Seal of Quality", and would appear as they originally did in terms of manuals, Cartridges, and Packaging with the exception of the Cartridge "Sleeve", which would be a metallic silver-colored plastic, instead of black.

The games wouldn't be limited to 2005 like the "Platinum Edition NES" would though, this way the system would be rarer than the games, but people who don’t have a lot of games for there NES could get them, and people who have a lot of games, but can't play them Could Play them again, or people could share the games they played when they were younger with there children.

Here's how I would release the system

2005 Exclusive "20th Anniversary Platinum Edition" Re-designed NES based on the Top-loading systems this is what I would include in the Box:

-1 "Platinum Edition" NES Control Deck

-1 "Platinum Edition" NES Controller (Redesigned version of the 'NES New-Style' controller to feel more like the SNES Controller)

-1 "Platinum Edition NES AC Adapter

-1 "Platinum Edition Nintendo "Zapper" Light Gun

-1 "Platinum Edition" Mono A/V Cables W/ connector for the "Platinum Edition NES" (The original NES had these, but opted for the RF switch on the 'New Style' Design, because NES games aren't in Stereo)

-1 "Platinum Edition NES" Control Deck Precautions booklet

-1 "Platinum Edition NES" Control Deck Instruction booklet

-1 "Platinum Edition NES" Nintendo "Zapper" Light Gun Instruction Booklet

-1 "Platinum Edition NES" Nintendo "Zapper" Light Gun Precautions Booklet

-1 Certificate of Authenticity from "Nintendo of America"

-1 BONUS DVD about the History of the NES.

In short the "20th Anniversary Platinum Edition NES" Control Deck would come with a total of 10 Items in the box, which Nintendo could set a special price for, since the games are so old, it should probably cost about $70 for the "Special Platinum Edition" NES, and I would make it compatible with all original NES games, because making it a new system would defeat the purpose. I'd make the system colors a "Metallic Silver" for platinum, with the old "Black" and "Red" buttons on it and the classic NES Logo.

As for the 20 "20th Anniversary Platinum Edition" games, packaging would obviously vary in pictures , but the games would carry Ratings ("E" through "M") now, and would have the "Nintendo Seal of Quality" and a "20th Anniversary Edition" seal on them, the original box and game manual art would remain intact though.

Here are the accessories I would make available:

- An extra "Platinum Edition NES Controller"
- A "Platinum Edition NES" Four-score
- A "Platinum Edition NES" Cleaning kit/with game wand

Again Nintendo would set the prices for these Items, but they would be excellent.

Now why should we care in 2002 about what should come out in 2005?

Because if we want Nintendo to hear us, and understand us, we have to make them know that there is a demand for a limited re-release of a classic system starting NOW! We have to E-mail them, Write to them through Snail Mail, send E-mail petitions, online petitions, and most Importantly Snail-Mail petitions. We have to distribute them in any way possible, be it passing them around school or work and mailing them to NOA, allowing people to sign them online and participate in all types of petitions, write e-mails and regular "Snail Mail" letters. Nintendo won't listen to one person, but if enough people tell them they want this, they may listen, we have nothing to lose, only a special NES and accessories for the system to gain.

I personally encourage very GT member to participate in this idea, and PM me if you think it's a good Idea. Also please vote in the poll, so I can see if we have strong enough support.

Regards,
~Cyrax9~

That'd be awesome... and hopefully they'd use better little grip thingies so the system doesn't get that damn "blinking problem"

The thing I'd like to know is, unless you thought the NES sucked, why wouldn't you want that? That'd be pretty sweet. I'd like to see it happen for sure.

What? It was only like $3

I'm glad to see posts already, if we can get 50 people who want this, You guys ca start PMing me so we can draw up petitions tpo send to the big "N", and maybe make this dream a reality. I'd buy one of these no matter what it costs. I'm glad other people agree with me.

DH-- I completly agree on the grips, I just hope we can pull this off, you're good at spreading the word of stuff like this, the sooner you PM me about this the better, remember, if we do convince Nintendo to make this, we need to give them a chance to redesign the stuff.

We know tey have the capabilities, the hardware, the software and code for the software, Nintendo Just neds to know that there is a demand for it, and that people want it desperatly enough that this system will still seel and survive the test of time. I like the poll results so far, everyone wants one of these.

Question

Would you want it to be a top-loading NES, or the classic one?

I would want it to be top-loading, but slightly improved on ease of inserting and removing a cartridge, and I would want it to be be "modified" in layout, so that it would look even more interesting, and still be economical like the top-loading NES which was smaller. Translation Smaller=Less money, and more buyers. Remember we want this thing to be a collectable system, and not just another average game system like the Poke'mon N64 which was a joke IMO.

Yeah, that would probably be better, because I wouldn't want a regular NES with a little sticker saying that it was the 20th anniversary.

I already posted this but I want more people to see my opinion;

Sounds like a great idea to me and I would support the idea, I collect old/retro consoles and games especially boxed + booked ones. This then seems like a great idea to me however I just know it would never come out in the UK, and if it did I would have to buy two of everything, one to sit unopened in its box and one to play to death. Great idea but mabey they'll just release a bunch of compillations of games for Gamecube.

I dunno, It sounds like a kinda good Idea, although I dont think it would work. People wouldnt buy it, methinks. And maybe dead systems are beter left staying dead, like the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park....

But I will go ahead and suppourt it anyways.
