I broke down and bought a DS
I was going to wait until I could actually afford it but I just decided to pull out the plastic and splurge. I didn't realize the extras included a rechargable battery pack with AC adapter. It's its own value pack essentially. I also bought Wario Ware and Mr. Driller. I couldn't decide between Mr. Driller and Zoo Keeper but Mr. Driller looks more fun IMO. I'm passing on SM64x4. I felt that getting all 120 stars on the N64 version was an accomplishment and I have little desire to go through that again, despite the extras. Plus I'm not to keen on controlling Mario with a D-pad.
Right now my slick new DS is on my desk charging. I know what I'm doing during lunch.

Re: I broke down and bought a DS
Heh, you were so close to the release of the PSP... you might have wanted to splurge on that. In any case the DS is pretty cool... I've played some games on it.
I just can't wait for the PSP now...

Congratulations Neo!
Which game do you like best?
Also, what are your impressions of PictoChat?

Re: I broke down and bought a DS
Eh, I'm beginning to think I should've gotten Zoo Keeper instead of Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits. Mr Driller is kind of disappointing. It's really hard, but I got good at it. It was exhilerating trying to beat some levels, but I just don't feel satisfied with it overall.

Does sleep mode drain the battery life?

Re: I broke down and bought a DS
The games are so tiny!
I'm still getting used to the interface. My hand tends to cramp up using that tiny little stylus. Plus the system is heavier than the GBA and holding it with one hand can get tiring. You can lay it flat when playing Wario Ware, but you have to hold it with one hand when playing the Metroid demo as your other hand must be free to use the stylus.
It's neat to play with, but I'm disappointed in the lack of games which incorporate the touch screen. Mr. Driller seems to work better with just the normal buttons.
It's fun drawing penises and vaginas with pictochat but it will be a miracle if I find someone I can send them to. I'm somewhat isolated as a gamer with the people I associate with.
The touchscreen gets smudged easily so I'm constantly having to wipe it. The volume control really needs to be a dial as the little slider is too imprecise.

Re: I broke down and bought a DS
I just read about Zoo Keeper. I like puzzle games like that so I'm definitely going to buy that soon.
I only remember suffering from hand fatigue when playing Mario for more than an hour.

Same here. I haven't PictoChatted with anyone yet. Speculation says that Nintendo might make some kind of DS announcment this month so maybe that announcment will alleviate our problem.
